NBC’s The Voice returns next month for your viewing pleasure, and aside from the new mentors, the show is undergoing some exciting changes! What we can expect to see on season 3? Let’s just say it involves being able to save some of the best talent!
That’s right, we are in for some new, exciting changes for the new season of The Voice, which is set to premiere next month. Mark Burnett, along with the four coaches met with reporters yesterday to discuss the changes, which will include a “steal” and a “knockout round.”
What are these new twists? The coaches steal will take place during the battle rounds, when a coach must cut one contestant. As contestants are cut, coaches will be able to steal that contestant if they would like. And just like in the blind auditions, if more than one coach hits their buzzer to steal the singer in question, it’s up to the contestant to decide which coach they would like to work with. Each coach is given the ability to steal two contestants, meaning that the battle rounds could conclude with 10 contestants per coach, instead of 8, as we have seen in the past.
But then there will also be the “knockout round,” which take place for two weeks, as the coaches will whittle their contestants down to 5 each. The contestant chooses their own song and performs while the next contestant is seated on a stool in the boxing ring they use for a set.
Mark Burnett added of the new changes: “It worked better than we hoped. It’s been a kind experience. People who deserve to stay will stay,” while the show’s host, Carson Daly said: “We were losing talent that’s so hard to get on these shows,” of the reason for the changes.
