The honeymoon is definitely over. And now, so is their marriage. Just 41 days after their July 4th nuptials, Basketball Wives‘ Evelyn Lozada has filed for divorce from
currently unemployed NFL player, Chad Johnson, following a domestic violence incident that resulted in his arrest. All the details after the jump.
Somewhere, Jennifer Williams is feeling a little vindication.
VH1 confirms that Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada has filed for divorce from Dancing with the Stars alum and former Miami Dolphins player, Chad Johnson.
Ev’s lawyers filed the paperwork on Tuesday (August 14), citing that her marriage is “irretrievably broken” days after a dispute that landed her in the hospital, and the couple on the front page of almost every media outlet.
“Given the recent events that have taken place, Evelyn has decided to file for divorce and move on with her life,” her attorney, Michael B. Gilden, tells The Insider in a statement.
Johnson’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was contacted, but declined to comment on the matter. (He’s obviously not having a very good week either.)
On Saturday (August 11), emergency officials received a 911 call from the former couple’s neighbor, telling authorities that there was an incident involving a “high-profile person.”
On the tape, the neighbor can be heard telling Evelyn to wipe the blood from her head. Lozada then tells the caller that Johnson head-butted her; a claim that Chad denies. In fact, he told the police that it was Ev who head-butted him! Classy.
“I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me,” Lozada said in a statement Tuesday morning. “It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well.”
Since the argument, which reportedly began over a receipt for condoms, Johnson has been released from the Miami Dolphins and their VH1 spin-off, Ev & Ocho, has been canceled.
The couple was recently featured on the first episode of HBO’s docu-series, “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins.” HBO execs have decided that Chad’s arrest will be mentioned on the show.
