“MasterChef” is back after a short hiatus and it’s down to the final six home cooks. Becky Reams, Christine Ha, David Martinez, Frank Mirando, Josh Marks, and Monti Carlo — who is your favorite, who is going home and who moves forward for a chance to earn an apron from Gordon Ramsay?
The “MasterChef” home cooks arrive at one of L.A’s premiere restaurants, Hatfield’s. The challenge? Run the kitchen. Becky Reams (Red Team Captain) picks Christine Ha and Monti Carlo. Frank Mirando (Blue Team Captain) picks David Martinez and Josh Marks. Gordon Ramsay will be expediting, so a lot of pressure. They’ll be cooking two signature appetizers and two signature entrees for 22 guests. Each team will be judged on their performance and feedback from the diners. They have one hour to prep for dinner service tonight.
The teams will make two appetizers, Croque Madame and House Made Ricotta. They will also make two entrees, Prairie Farms Rack of Venison and Pan Roasted Branzino Red Onion Soubise.
Joe Bastianich says Christine Ha is going to be a liability in a restaurant kitchen. As the orders start coming and Becky Reams starts to get very stressed. Christine can’t tell who is speaking to her. The Red Team sends out the appetizers, the guests are into them. Blue Team is falling behind. 20 minutes in and the Blue Team has yet to send something out.
After an hour, the Blue Team finally gets their appetizers out. Frank Mirando and Becky also have to get dishes out to the restaurant owners. Frank sends his VIP dishes out but leaves Becky, Monti Carlo and Christine in the dark, so she has to scramble to get her dishes to the owners. The owners call Blue Team’s pasta raw. They say that the Red Team’s Croque is lacking sauce.
The teams completed all of the diners orders. The losing team will be up against the Pressure Test. The winning team is the Red Team.
Gordon Ramsay asks Frank if he could save one person who would he save? Frank chooses Josh Marks. Then Gordon Ramsay allows Frank to save one person so Frank chooses himself. So much for nobility.
Te Pressure Test involves Filet Mignon. They must make three cuts of steak: rare, medium rare and well done. They have 30 minutes.
The time is up. David’s rare is a little more medium-rare, says Joe. Josh’s rare is as close to a perfect as possible. The medium rare, David produced a medium to medium well steak, according to Graham. Josh’s steak is a little more medium. Chef Ramsay judges that neither of their well done are even close to that.
The judges have their little pow wow and, tonight, Josh is safe and David is heading home. But before David leaves Graham has a surprise for David. Graham says said that David now has a job at Graham’s restaurant in Chicago! Congratulations David! It’s not a new cookbook, but in this economy a job is nothing to sneeze at!
