Our hopes aren’t too high for tonight’s results episode on America’s Got Talent, because, frankly, yesterday was a real snooze-fest. With one or two exceptions, the acts were decidedly underwhelming. Guess the whole YouTube experiment didn’t really work out. Let’s hope the decent performers made it through to the semifinals!
The show starts with a bang, as Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas makes a special guest appearance! Unfortunately, no routines from Gabby, but you can’t blame her; she’s gotta be exhausted following her gold medal in the all-around.
Three acts come to the stage for the first cut and they cover the entire spectrum from last night: good (Academy of Villains), bad (Reverse Order) and ugly (Cast in Bronze). America got it right this week, because Academy of Villains is continuing on to the semifinals!
Following a little incident in which NBC neglected to air a preview of Justin Bieber’s new song, the Beliebers finally get their moment. Meh. More entertaining is internet sensation Karmin with their recent singles Brokenhearted and Hello. The new songs aren’t quite as impressive as the cover of Look At Me Now that originally spurred them to fame, but it’s still fun to see them on the big stage.
Time to learn the next act chosen by voters for the semifinals! It’ll either be Bria Kelly, Rudy Coby or 7 in Unison. While none of these acts knocked our socks off, we did appreciate Bria Kelly’s lovely voice. It looks like America did as well, because she’s made it through!
Eric Buss, The Magic of Puck and Melinda Hill arrive on stage in hopes of following Bria Kelly and Academy of Villains to the semifinals. The Magic of Puck prevails, much to Sharon’s delight. She thinks the promotion to semifinalist is completely deserved.
America’s Got Talent is desperate to fill up that hour of programming, which is why the narrator of YouTube hit Honey Badger is taking the stage to narrate the goings on of America’s Got Talent. Unfortunately, it’s really not that funny. Neither is the second time-waster, a featurette entitled “A Day In The Life Of Howard Stern.” Yawn.
The final contestants take the stage to learn their fate. Once again, of the options (Romeo Dance Cheetah, Clint Carvalho and Drew Erwin) there’s a clear front runner: Clint and his Extreme Parrots. Surprise, surprise, Clint has made it through. Thank you America for not voting the lame acts through to semifinals.
Next week’s episode should be far more exciting, as it is the much-anticipated wild-card round. We already know that Sharon gave the first spot to clogging group All That, but we’re not sure about the others. We hope that Andrew De Leon will get another chance to show off his stunning voice. Same goes for Mary Joyner.
