Everyone wants Nicki Minaj! Or, at least, the major soda companies sure do! The singer-rapper is at the middle of a skirmish between Coca-Cola and Pepsi, both of which lay claim to her talents. The drama was set in full force when American Idol began courting Minaj for the final judging spot. Who will win in the battle of the beverages?
American Idol has sought nearly every big (and not so big) celeb out there in hopes of filling the remaining judging spot in the wake of JLo and Steven Tyler’s departures. The latest recruit? Superbass star Nicki Minaj.
There’s one little problem: Coca-Cola is American Idol’s big sponsor, but Nicki Minaj is currently the face of (dun, dun, dun) Pepsi. To have Pepsi’s new mascot bandying about on a Coke-affiliated show would be simply disastrous! After all, Coca-Cola spends a cool $26 million each year promoting its beverages on Idol. It wouldn’t really be a sound investment, if the face of Pepsi was placed square in the middle of the judging panel. And of course, the contradiction of a Pepsi promoter sipping on Coke would just be too mind-blowing to handle.
This wouldn’t be the first time an American Idol judge got in hot water over sponsorship drama. Jennifer Lopez sparked outrage with American Idol sponsor Ford when she appeared in a Fiat commercial. Of course, she was already a judge at the time, and not a potential judge like Nicki Minaj, so the circumstances were a bit different.
Would you like to see Nicki Minaj on American Idol? Or should she stick with the Pepsi gig and stay away from singing competitions? Share your thoughts (and your predictions for the coming Coke-Pepsi battle) below!
