Fans following the current controversy involving Dancing with the Stars alum Hope Solo and current pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy have been quick to show their allegiance to either Maks or Hope. Most of the other Dancing with the Stars alums have kept quiet about the whole fiasco, but returning contestant Gilles Marini firmly claims he’s all for Team Maks.
The Hope-Maks feud continues, and now certain DWTS contestants are beginning to take sides. Joining Team Maks is Gilles Marini, the attractive and talented runner-up who will be returning for the upcoming all-star season. What did he have to say in Maks’ defense?
Gilles thinks that Maks’ heavy-handed training techniques simply reflect the way the pro was taught back in the day. “I think dancers like Maks, they were so young when they started dancing — so young — that they know only one way. And it’s the hard way. It’s very hard for them to transfer from teaching someone patience, to a race against time, in a kind way. I’m not saying it’s right, I’m not saying it’s wrong. I’m saying that’s the only way he knows how to teach….He’s going to do what he needs to do to make his partner win.”
Additionally, Gilles argues, if a contestant is uncomfortable with Maks’ teaching style, she should speak up as soon as possible — not stay quiet and then publish it in a memoir. “His way is hard. We all know about it. If a lady doesn’t like to be treated in a hard way on the dance floor with Maks, then they should tell the producer, ‘I don’t want to get in on this ride. Because I’m scared.’”
We do think that Gilles has a point, although based on Maks’ behavior on the show, we wouldn’t want to be partnering with him! Your thoughts?
