MasterChef Recap: Which Amazing Chef Will Go?

August 21, 2012 10:15 PM by Gina Hall

The home cooks who are left are the best of the best on “MasterChef.” It’s anyone’s guess as to who goes home tonight. But somebody’s got to, Gordon Ramsay will make sure of it. So let’s see what happens…

It’s another Mystery Box Challenge but when they open the box,  it’s empty! They are supposed to go into the pantry and grab 15 ingredients to create a dish that defines them. A signature dish.

But it turns out that it’s not that simple. Once they select, Gordon Ramsay tells them they must give their ingredients to the homecook in front of them. Josh Marks has Frank Mirando’s ingredients, Becky Reams has Josh Marks’s, Christine Ha has Becky Ream’s, Monti Carlo has Christine Ha’s and Frank Mirando has Monti Carlo’s.

Joe Bastianich seems to think that Monti Carlo will struggle with Christine Ha’s ingredients. Time is up and the judges take a last look for the three standout dishes.

Josh Marks made Savory Bread Pudding with Pork, Onion Rings and Mozzarella. Gordon Ramsay calls it delicious and spicy.. Monti Carlo made Tom Kha Gai Chicken, Coconut Milk and Lemongrass. Graham says it’s extremely flavorful. Christine Ha’s is up next with Pan-Seared Chicken with beet and Goat Cheese Salad. Gordon Ramsay calls it a symphony.

The winner of the Mystery Box Challenge is Josh. He joins the judges to decide what the home cooks will be cooking tonight for the Elimination Test. The dishes he has to choose from are the same that Graham Elliot prepared in his restaurant for the likes of Oprah, Jay-Z and President Barack Obama. Josh chooses the dish eaten by President Obama, which was White Tuna Sashimi.

They only have 30 minutes to prepare the dishes. Up first is Christine and Graham says it is cut beautifully and tastes great. Next is Monti and Gordon Ramsay says there is no seasoning and Joe says she missed the spirit of the dish. Next is Frank. Graham calls it a perfect rendition. Becky steps up and Chef Ramsay says it’s poor delivery. Finally Josh is up. Graham says the five pieces are inconsistent and Joe says it misfired. Gordon Ramsay is angry that Josh changed what was a perfect dish.

The judges decide that the standout dish belongs to Christine,  Graham says that it was good enough to have been served to President Obama. The bottom three dishes are from Monti, Becky and Josh. Who will be going home?

Becky is asked to step forward and they giver her a verbal tongue lashing to  tell her she has let them down for quite a few of the challenges, but it’s all for naught,  she is safe tonight. It’s down to Monti and Josh. And it is Monti Carlo that will heading home this evening. Josh is still standing and we’ll seem him in the competition next week. Who are you guys rooting for to win? Is Christine Ha a shoo in or is there someone else?

I think it was a obvious setup. Josh wins the mystery box and then is offered three dishes consumed by Obama, Oprah and Jay-Z to cook for the elimination challenge.
So if Frank had won the mystery box would they have had dishes eaten by Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci?
Seriously, this episode jumped the shark with all it’s Obama love and obvious bogus pre-determined winner.
I have a serious fear they are going to give masterchef to Josh and Hell’s kitchen to Barbie due to the upcoming presidential election.

Who else hates the sad piano music they play everytime they praise Christine? Do they really think their viewers are that easily manipulated?

I see the final 2 as Becky and Christine. they have been the most consistent winners of the various tasks presented on Master Chef 3.
