We all know Kanye West is capable of making “the best video ever,” but could he cut it as an American Idol judge? That’s right, after considering one joke of a celeb after another, American Idol is now supposedly looking at Kanye as a potential candidate. Could Idol sink any lower?
Kanye West might cut some excellent Billboard hits, but his personality is a bit, well, grating. And that’s exactly why we’re hoping that the rumors of his talks with American Idol are not based at all in reality. But according to TMZ, the head honchos at American Idol are seriously considering adding Kanye to a panel that, as of right now, includes Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson.
Don’t despair yet. As with most of the other Idol rumors that have floated around this summer, this one might not actually amount to anything. TMZ’s source claims that Kanye West is still “on the fence” about the idea, mostly because he’s not positive that Idol is “in his wheelhouse.”
Kanye’s name is just one of many in the hip hop industry that has been considered for that elusive judging position. Earlier this week, rumors surfaced regarding a potential judging position for Nicki Minaj. And before that, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ name also popped up in the rumor mill. Concerned by its ever-plummeting ratings, American Idol is supposedly looking for a hip hop artist capable of pulling in younger viewers. We suspect, though, that Kanye might scare away more viewers than he would attract.
Do you think Kanye West would make a good addition to the American Idol? Or do you think another artist would better fit the job description? Share your thoughts (and your ideal judging candidate) with us below!
