Katy Perry Turns Down $20 Million For American Idol

August 26, 2012 09:00 AM by Lisa Princ

And yet another star turns down American Idol! While we learned yesterday that Keith Urban could possibly be one of the new judges, rumor also has it that Katy Perry has turned a spot down, and a $20 million spot at that!

American Idol is desperately trying to fill the judging seats left vacant by Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, and we recently learned that Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj could be joining the panel. But, one person you won’t see sitting next to Mariah Carey this season is Katy Perry, because apparently the Wide Awake singer turned the gig down!

According to TMZ, American Idol has been pursuing Katy Perry weeks, giving her an offer of $18 million – the same pay that Mariah Carey is getting, and rumor has it that they wanted Perry so badly, they upped the offer to $20 million. But even $20 million was not enough to get Katy Perry to sign on the dotted line, because it had nothing to do with the money.

Sources close to Katy Perry say that she did not feel that joining American Idol was the correct career move for herself, nor did she think she could fit it into her packed schedule! It’s probably a good thing though that Katy turned it down – we can’t see Mariah Carey being cool with Katy Perry making more moolah than her!

Ironically, as we reported yesterday, both Brad Paisley and Keith Urban were only offered around $4 million to join the panel.

And the search continues…Who would you like to see on the American Idol judging panel? Comment and share your thoughts below!
