Monti Carlo answered the “MasterChef” casting call with apple pie and not a dime to her name.
“I was unemployed…I had maybe $50 in my bank account,” Monti Carlo said in an exclusive interview with Reality TV Magazine. “My carry all for my pies was so ghetto. Everyone else at the audition had fancy stuff.”
So she was really surprised when the producers put her through to the top 100.
The top 100 “was insane, I’d never even seen MasterChef,” Monti said. “I’d also never been apart from my kid in my life, so it was strange to be surrounded by people my own age again.”
Monti was pinning all her hopes to the top 100 audition. “It was so scary,” she said.”I was on a $10 a day food budget…this was my only chance.”
“To have Gordon Ramsay put me through, that was so amazing.”
Monti has a lot of respect for Chef Ramsay and was thrilled during one of the challenges when he dug her soft boiled egg covered in crab.
“To have Gordon Ramsay giggling and telling you how much he likes it…to have him give you the nod. It was awesome.”
As for the elimination? Well, she saw it coming.
“I’ve never made sashimi, my knife skills aren’t up to par…I knew, my avocado mousse wasn’t up to par. When you saw Christine comfort me, I was saying goodbye.”
“It was the best experience of my life, except for having my kid.”
What’s Monti up to now? Well, she’s working on a cookbook for parents on an extreme budget and also on a series of videos showing parents how to pack a lunch for their kids and themselves using the same ingredients. Sounds like a good idea…good luck Monti!
