America’s Next Top Model Releases Bizarre Photos Of Its College Contestants

August 30, 2012 03:00 PM by Stephanie Gustafson

We’re used to seeing odd pictures of the young women competing on America’s Next Top Model. In years past, photographer Jay Manuel used shocking concepts in order to draw attention to such issues as eating disorders and domestic violence. This time, though, the latest photo shoot is just bizarre…without making any recognizable point on the ills of today’s society. Is this another sign of ANTM’s coming demise?

Going for the shock value is not particularly unusual in the world of high fashion, especially when said fashion is displayed to viewers in the form of reality television. Who could forget the shoot in which all of the models were portrayed as dead bodies? But the most recent ANTM shoot takes it a step further, by cutting off each model’s head and mounting her on the wall. Taxidermy and high fashion? We thought that concept was limited to fur coats.

Typically, when a potentially controversial shot is completed, it is designed to highlight a certain issue worthy of our attention. But in this case, we’re having a really hard time figuring out what that issue could be. What positive message could possible arise from a picture of a teen with her head mounted on the wall?

Suffice to say, we’re not really liking the replacement of former photo director Jay Manuel. The photo shoot for the upcoming episode was directed by 90210′s Shenae Grimes. We already suspected that Grimes was a little bit crazy, but this definitely confirms it.  We’re really curious as to how Grimes will explain the shoot’s overarching concept. Or is there a concept at all? Hard to say at this point.
