From network news anchor to daytime hostess, Katie Couric announced a short list of famous people she will fill up airtime with this fall on her new show, creatively titled, “Katie.”
The new talk show will hit the airwaves on Sept. 10. The premiere will feature Jessica Simpson – remember her from “Fashion Star?” – in Jessica Simpson’s first on-air interview since she gave birth to a daughter in May, that she named Maxwell. And it’s a girl.
But wait, there’s more. The premiere episode will also feature an appearance from singer Sheryl Crow – ask your mom – who will talk. She will speak about a brain tumor diagnosis she had. Sheryl wrote Katie’s theme song. On the show.
Regarding her new career to a syndicated talk show after anchoring the evening news on CBS, Couric said, “I had an ultimate sense of satisfaction. But I was not ambivalent about feeling this wasn’t the place for me for the rest of my career. It wasn’t the right environment for me. In terms of the atmosphere, it wasn’t a good fit for my sensibilities and personality.”
Well, that makes perfect sense because it wasn’t a good fit for the viewers, either.
The former CBS anchor has also secured interviews in addition to Jessica Simpson with Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato of “The X Factor,” Barbra Streisand, Heidi Klum, Susan Sarandon, Chelsea Handler, Sofia Vergara, fellow talk show host Wendy Williams – incidentally, not a former network news anchor – and 50 Shades of Grey” author E.L. James, who wrote the “50 Shades of Grey” book series that you may have heard of. All these famous people and more have said that they will go on Katie’s new show. Looking forward!
