Oh the horror! MTV recently announced that it plans to cancel Jersey Shore, the popular reality show responsible for lowering IQ scores all across the nation. Whatever will we do without the weekly antics of Snooki, JWoww, Pauly D and the Situation? Perhaps accomplish something worthwhile?
It’s been a crazy road for the stars of Jersey Shore, but it looks like the TV show that launched their widespread fame will soon be coming to a close. MTV announced that the upcoming sixth season of the reality phenomenon will be its last, rounding out three years (is that all?!) of craziness.
This announcement comes following concerns for the show’s long-term viability. Although extremely successful in its first few season, Jersey Shore’s ratings have been plummeting as of late. Last season’s premiere managed to draw in a full million fewer viewers than the one that preceded it. Despite sinking ratings, the Jersey Shore stars now demand huge salaries, drawing in as much as $150,000 per episode.
So, what will become of all the guidos and guidettes? Jersey Shore spin-offs The Pauly D Project and Snooki & JWoww have not proven particularly successful, although Snooki & JWoww has officially been renewed for a second season. We’re assuming that the reality stars will continue to milk their fame in any way possible, be it launching new clothing lines, appearing in advertisements, or transitioning to other reality shows. Perhaps we’ll see a few more guidos and guidettes on Dancing with the Stars? Or, maybe, we’re in for a future Survivor: Jersey Shore Edition.
