Project Runway Recap: Selling Out For Fashion

September 06, 2012 09:21 PM by Shayla Perry

With no elimination last week, there are still 9 designers remaining on Lifetime‘s Project Runway; which Christopher Palu and Ven Budhu are NOT happy about. Should Gunnar Deatherage have been sent home after the Lord & Taylor challenge? Will he finally be “out” tonight? All the highlights after the jump.

This week on Project Runway, the designers are tasked with another team challenge; one that they certainly weren’t prepared for.

In the workroom, Tim Gunn greets the contestants with several bottles of glitter and other colorful nick-knacks, explaining that instead of working with a predetermined budget, they’ll be creating craft projects and selling them on the street in order to earn the money they’ll need.

It sounds horrifying at first, but Gunn lets the designers know that they don’t have to sell “things,” but they can also sell fashion advice, etc. The downside, is that they’ll be working in teams.

For our entertainment, however, Gunnar and Christopher are on the same team, making this challenge even better. Oh, and Dmitry Sholokhov with Elena Slivnyak? We couldn’t have picked the teams better ourselves (though we’re secretly wondering if the producers found  a way to rig the team selection).

Christopher, Gunnar, and Sonjia Williams have decided to make t-shirts, and surprise, surprise…so did Dmitry’s team. Except, his team’s shirts don’t turn out so well, which starts Elena’s storm of negative comments. Poor Alicia Hardesty…stuck in the middle — again.

On the streets, the teams have 2 hours to sell as much as they can. After a slow start, things start to pick up. So what are they going to be doing with all the cash they’ve made?

The next morning in the workroom, Tim Gunn tells the designers that not only will they still be working in teams, but that the money they made will be their team budget for creating 2 Fall looks; one of which includes outerwear.

Sonjia is stoked, ready to show off who she really is as a designer. But the last time she was that confident, she didn’t do too well….

After sketching their designs, the groups head to Mood to pick out fabric before getting started on their looks.

It’s not long before Dmitry and Elena start to clash (again), but surprisingly, Alicia actually gives a little attitude with Elena bashes her pants.

Gunnar and Christopher’s shiny, happy moment is falling to pieces too. The jackets in their collection were supposed to be the showstoppers, but it’s Gunnar’s dresses that are getting all the praise from the other designers. Unfortunately, for Gunnar, if the judges don’t like what they see, he could be at risk for elimination with Chris having immunity.

Luckily, Heidi Klum and the rest of the judges like their looks. And SHOCKINGLY, Chris even says that Gunnar should win the challenge for creating two dresses.

There wasn’t any love on Dmitry’s team, though. He and Elena get into it in front of the judges. The judges seemed to side with Dmitry, but don’t have many nice things to say to Alicia either.

After a tough deliberation, the judges declare Sonjia the winner of the challenge. Dmitry and Elena will both see another week of competition, but their teammate, Alicia, won’t, as she’s out.

What do you think of the judges’ decision? Should Alicia have been eliminated this week?

Elena is the worst excuse for a team player I’ve ever seen. I’ll bet picking teams in school she was always picked last. She whined her way through another challenge and sabotaged her team by calling their shirts “crappy” to potential customers and threw her teamates under the bus. I wish she would have gone home instead of Alicia. But there’s no way a miserable woman like Elena is winning the competetion.
