American Idol has been snagging a ton of attention with its judges and mentors (and we suspect the indecisiveness is a bit of a publicity stunt) but it turns out there’s some pretty big news surrounding another big singing competition: The X Factor. It looks like Marc Anthony has signed on as a mentor for the show! There’s definitely potential for drama with this decision — but why?
As you may recall, Jennifer Lopez recently departed American Idol for bigger and better projects. Just a month after JLo’s big announcement, her ex-husband has an announcement of his own: he’s going to be a mentor on The X Factor. The links between X Factor and American Idol are strong, as Simon Cowell has played a major role in both shows. Marc Anthony’s participation just serves as one more connection, and one significant to have the rumor mill buzzing for awhile.
Marc Anthony was enlisted by the mighty Simon Cowell, so we’re not sure whether the singer will actually play much of a role in choosing finalists. Maybe he’s just there to calm Simon down when his acid tongue gets out of control. Apparently, Simon will be in charge of the groups category this time around, a development that should definitely prove interesting.
Who else will be mentoring on the show? Justin Bieber has already tweeted profusely about his new role as L.A. Reid’s right-hand man. And the rumors suggest that Demi Lovato will enlist Nick Jonas, the little brother of her former fling.
Do you think Marc Anthony will make a good mentor? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
