Demi Lovato had the honor of being the opening act of the night at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she performed her song “Give Your Heart a Break,” a breakout hit as of late. She sang outside the VMA’s venue at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to give all the fans who couldn’t get inside a taste of all the cool stuff they were missing out on.
“I’m so honored to be a performer for the VMAs,” Demi Lovato said. “I watched them when I was growing up, and I still do. They’re awesome. It’s crazy.”
“They’re awesome. It’s crazy.” Demi Lovato: the voice of a generation.
Demi said that she was very nervous about performing, but from all reports, she pulled it off nicely. She added that after performing she likes to unwind by getting comfortable.
“The first thing I do is put on sweatpants and take my heels off and get rid of the makeup and just chill,” she told MTV News.
Of course, it would be kind of weird if she just stayed in her wardrobe all night, wouldn’t it?
It was the singer’s first time performing on the program, and it was also her the first time she had been nominated, and the first time she had ever won. She won an award for Best Video with a Message (that’s a real category) for a song on her “Unbroken” album called “Skyscraper.”
After the show, as she was leaving, she tweeted, “”Leaving VMAs … what an amazing night!!”
