She may have rejected a spot on American Idol, but Katy Perry still has a thing for TV appearances. Yesterday, the one-time So You Think You Can Dance guest strutted her stuff on the VMA carpet. But that’s not the only reason she attracted attention! A little incident with the Simon Cowell proteges of One Direction resulted in some very happy young men…and a broken trophy.
The VMA Awards were certainly eventful for Katy Perry. The singer tried out the cougar role while handing out the award for Best Pop Video to the teenage heartthrobs of One Direction. Each lucky guy managed to snag a kiss from one of America’s hottest pop stars!
But there was a price to pay for those kisses. While giving band member Liam Payne a smooch, Katy swung One Direction’s trophy a little too fast, breaking off a little piece of it. Obviously, the VMAs are giving out pretty flimsy trophies!
Fortunately, Liam wasn’t too bummed about the broken trophy. “I just want to say we’ve had this award for two seconds and already we broke it so there’s a good start…It’s amazing to be here.” His bandmate Niall added, “Wow, thank you very much Katy. Thanks for the kiss. Thank you so much…to collect one of these is absolutely incredible.”
Although one of One Direction’s trophies is damaged goods, the band has two others that are currently in great shape. They won the categories of Best New Artist and Most Share-Worthy Video in addition to the award for Best Pop Video. Three awards and a series of kisses from Katy Perry? That’s what we call a successful night!
