Rihanna kissed and hugged her ex-boyfriend and former assailant Chris Brown on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards, and maybe it was the public setting or the fact that she had just won an award, but the whole thing went down non-violently.
“Rihanna goes directly up to Chris Brown and throws both arms around her ex-boyfriend in a mutual embrace,” according to a post on RyanSeacrest.com. “After giving a quick hug to his neighbor, Rihanna also snickers and tousles Chris’ newly bleached hair in a playful manner.”
Seriously, that’s a quote from RyanSeacrest.com – “snickers” and “tousles.”
Rihanna and Chris Brown’s relationship went south after he beat her up while they were arguing about a text message from another girl (presumably on his cellular phone).
In 2009, Rihanna described the assault to Diane Sawyer on TV. Here’s what she said:
“He was clearly blacked out. There was no person when I looked at him. It was almost as if he had nothing to lose. He had so much to lose. But it was almost as if he had nothing to lose. It wasn’t the same person that says I loved you. It definitely wasn’t those eyes.”
At the time, Rihanna said she was unsure if she could ever be with Brown again.
Unsure? One wonders what kind of beating would bring about some measure of certainty?
“You never know what the future holds … I don’t have a desire at all to be with him … I don’t see how we could get back together. But I’m not God, so I can’t predict the future.”
What about hot stoves? Any prediction, Rihanna, regarding whether you would intentionally touch one of those in the future? How about intentionally poking yourself in the eye with a sharp stick? Or does that require omniscience, too?
