Is Colton Dixon the next American Idol success story? Well, he’s certainly off to a great start with a major record deal! Colton didn’t even plan on auditioning for American Idol last season. He went to the audition simply to support his sister Schyler Dixon during her own audition; however, Randy Jackson urged Colton to sing as well. And, as they say, the rest is history. Catch all the details about Colton’s deal below.
Colton Dixon announced the good news on YouTube. He has signed with EMI Christian Music Group’s Sparrow Records.
Colton shares, “Two of the most important things in my life have always been my faith and my music. I am now blessed with the chance to combine both of these passions in working with 19 recordings/EMI CMG. With their support, I know I will be able to make an album that I am proud of and showcase who I am as an artist.”
Colton sang his original song “Never Gone” throughout the American Idol Live summer tour, which marks the first time a contestant has performed one of their own songs on the tour. The studio version of “Never Gone” hits iTunes on September 25. Colton’s first single will be “You Are.” Colton describes the track as a “worship song,” and you can expect to hear it on the radio around October 19.
Jason Morey, EVP and Worldwide Head of Music at 19 Entertainment, said, “We are looking forward to Colton releasing an album that is a reflection of who he is as an artist. He has the unique ability to connect with his fans through his music, and we are proud to support him as he takes his next step into stardom.”
Peter York, President of EMI CMG/Sparrow Records, shares Jason’s excitement about the partnership. He adds, “He [Colton] is a world-class vocalist with passion, a mission, and a sincere depth of character. We are honored to bring his recordings to those fans who have championed him along his musical journey and introduce him to those who have not yet had the pleasure.”
Colton expects his first album to be ready before March. We wish you much success, Colton!
