Britney Spears Didn’t Think She Could Be ‘X Factor’ Judge

September 09, 2012 07:00 AM by Gina Hall

Britney Spears, now a judge “The X Factor,” tried to renege on her $15 million contract on her first day of production, after experiencing a panic attack on set, according to her co-worker and head-diva-in-charge, Simon Cowell. What did Simon say to calm the pop singer’s nerves?

Simon Cowell made a phone call to TMZ Live to say that program spokespeople “half-lied” to the press in May when they said that Britney Spears walked off the set because she had to feel the call of nature.

The media, it seems, didn’t go with the obvious follow-up question, “Don’t people usually come back after going to the bathroom?”

“No one is going to admit that on the first day your highest paid star, after 20 minutes, has walked off set,” Simon said in the interview.

Simon Cowell said that Britney Spears “had a moment on the first day where she said to me ‘I’m not sure I can do this.’”

To be clear, Britney’s job on the program is one of judge, there’s no legal education required, the requirements seem to be being famous, having time to do the show and being able to form some sort of an opinion about performers on the show, and that opinion does not get scrutinized, as far as I am aware.

Her words once again, “I’m not sure I can do this.”

Simon said he reassured her that she could do it, and now she reportedly enjoys the job – the job that, and I can’t stress this enough, she gets paid $15 million to do.
