Between a crazy haircut, wedding plans with Liam Hemsworth and a recent altercation with an intruder, Miley Cyrus has certainly been making headlines this past week. But the former Punk’d star really would prefer more attention focused on her blossoming vocal skills. And Miley just might get her wish, thanks to a recently released cover of Lilac Wine.
We’ve grown accustomed to casting off Miley Cyrus’ musical aspirations, but we just might have to rethink things a bit. In the past, the lyrics in Miley’s songs contained such gems as “she’s just being Miley” and “moving my hips like yeah,” but the celeb is now taking a new approach to the industry. Her recent cover of the James Shelton standard Lilac Wine shows a level of maturity we never thought possible. And clearly, Miley’s been spending some time practicing, because the vocal mastery in her cover is also surprisingly impressive.
Of course, the Miley Cyrus version of Lilac Wine doesn’t even come close to reaching the awe-inspiring nature of Nina Simone and Jeff Buckley’s earlier renditions of the song. But that’s okay. If Miley continues to improve, she actually has the potential to be a great singer! A good first step towards reaching that goal? Forget about all the attention-grabbing antics and focus on creating great music!
The big question now is, will Miley’s upcoming single mimic the style displayed in Lilac Wine? Or will she return to the Top 40 type of music she released in 2009? Guess we’ll just have to wait to find out!
What do you think of Miley’s new cover? Are you pleasantly surprised? Or do you still view the young star as overrated and over-hyped? Check out the video and share your reaction in the comments section below!
