Bachelor Pad Winner Nick Peterson – Admirable Or Despicable?

September 11, 2012 11:00 AM by Lisa Princ

Last night on the season finale of ABC’s Bachelor Pad, we watched a heartfelt proposal, and a shocking betrayal, when Nick chose to keep the entire $250k prize money for himself. Today, fans seem to be torn over whether Nick Peterson made an admirable or despicable decision last night!

Nick Peterson the hero or the zero? That seems to be the buzz around Bachelor-nation today after last night’s shocking Bachelor Pad finale. Nick gave a good argument last night as to why he deserved the money – I mean, come on, how many of us really expected him to be in the finale to begin with? But, on the flip side, many are arguing that he was only there because of Rachel Truehart.

After the finale, Nick took to Twitter to defend his decision once again, as he posted: “In regards to all of the comments from tonight: I went on Bachelor Pad 3 to play the game, not to find love or make friends.” Contrary to what you may think, many folks have responded positively, commending Nick Peterson for playing the game very well.

However, while Nick Peterson may have played the game very well, did he have to do it at Rachel’s expense? The poor girl was already nursing a broken heart courtesy of Michael Stagliano. Something tells us we may be seeing Rachel Truehart as the next Bachelorette contestant – what do you think?

For those of you who tuned in last night, we want to hear your thoughts on Nick’s decision. Did Nick Peterson play the game well, or should he have shared the money with Rachel? Was Nick’s move admirable or despicable? We know you have an opinion, and we want to hear it! Comment and share your thoughts with us below!

Nick was a complete a__hole!!! Despite what he thinks, he made it that far on account of Rachel. They had an agreement but decided to go against it. He has no morals which makes him a bigger loser than Chris!!!

I believe that Nick deserved the money! Rachel attempted to leave numerous times and just because she has a broken heart doesnt mean she deserves anything. It was a game and Nick won fair and square! What a great ending!

I think what comes around ygoes around. This money carries negative energy for Nick.Sadly greed won! Nick may think he got there alone however he made it to the end with someone it was not a game about solo contestants. Whether he had game or not he is very foolish to think there will not be long term side effects. He should have been a man and shared it with the women he rode to victory with. User?

Bachelor Pad producers might have to change the game after this season. :o) Nick had all the right reasons to keep the money. Like he said, it was a game. And I thought Chris was the shrewd player. Congrats to Nick!

Good for Nick! He was right. The people in that alliance treated him like dirt. He doesn’t owe them anything. He had to sit around and listen to Rachel boo hoo over some loser that she didn’t realize was using her for a public booty call. Why should he show her any sympathy when she was not kind to him?!?!

Nick deserved to WIN!!! He played the game right ran under the radar while the other people were all in to themselves. Girls thinking this was the place to find “True Love”. Grow Up!!! He was the smartest and understood that he was being played by Rachel so he did what he had to do take it all. I firmly believe if he had a partner that was supportive and fair he would have shared the money. Way to go Nick!!!!!!

I think Nick made the correct decision. He was there to win 250k, and the decision he made was the ONLY decision he could have made to achieve his goal. It is easy to feel sorry for Rachel, but it was a game with no rules and those with sensitive feelings should not play or watch. On the other hand, knowing that Rachel was willing to “Share” and considering she was his partner, giving her 50k and saying Thank You, would have made him a Fan to everyone.

Nick Peterson is the greatest bachelor pad champion in all of history. Everyone underestimated him and he took all the money and laughed in the face of his opposition. Everyone was stunned thinking, oh we’re all friends, everyone chooses “share” then BAM the man come and take the money. And why should he feel sorry for rachel truehart for not winning $125,000? She was one of many billions of people across the globe who did NOT win $125,000 yesterday. There’s greater tragedy out there to worry about than this chick failing to win some money. She still got free food, booze, shelter for like 2 months. C’mon now. She (and most of the contestants on the show) would’ve blown the money on consumer garbage in no time anyway.

Nick should have shared the prize money with Rachel as she helped him come to the finals. She was unselfish unlike Nick by voting to share the prize. Hopefully Rachel will recover from this unpleasant ordeal and take consolation in the fact that Nick will have to face the music from the general audience who will not be applauding unlike the those on tv. Good luck to Rachel!

I actually think that Karma bit Rachel in the butt, big time. She was not loyal or true to her best friend, so she did not take her to the final with her. Consequently her partner was not loyal or true to her. So much for sacrificing a frienship for money. She deserves what happened to her.

    There’s PROS & CONS here:
RACHEL was an emotional wreck after Stagliano went home – her head Wasn’t in the game, much to the frustration of Nick!
OK, so they “win” each other by default. Grow up & deal with it!
NICK seemed to hold grudges from other team members’ comments & used as justification for “stiffing” Rachel…uh, that dog won’t hunt!
Bottom line: NEITHER of them would have gotten to the Top Without the OTHER & should have acknowledged such – Rachel DID (by willing to share) and Nick isADick, because he would not….

How sad is he? To get where he was because of Rachel and then to lie through the game until the end. I understande it’s a game, that’s fine but HE convinced her to vote against her friend to win the money so she obviously trusted him and took his side on many key decisions that brought them to the end TOGETHER. It made me sick the way he turned and his speech on how it was ALL HIM and NO one helped. He’s a liar and disgusting just like Rachel said. He knew she was going to share it which just goes to show how much of a loser he is. It I ever saw this guy in public I’d spit in his face.

It is a game and considering he won 250,000 I think he played it well. Was is nice, no. But I say kudos to him! I felt bad for Rachel. I am pretty sure if Rachel had made a sincere to be Nick’s friend or get to know him, he would have shared the money. Obviously, everyone didn’t think he “deserved” it. I guess he won it anyway. Admirable!!! It’s a game.

  21. dee Says:
    September 11th, 2012 at 7:53 pm

I think this guy is getting a seriously bad rap. Nearly everyone on the show treated him like a non-entity and I agree with him he didn’t owe any of them. If they hadn’t been so pre-occupied with all their drama they would have voted him out ages ago. I’m especially like ‘really rachel???’ because she screwed Jackie the episode before. Does she really have a leg to stand on, going on and on about loyalty when she doesn’t have very much herself? Good on you Nick, you did the right thing for you when no-one else was willing to look out for you. Loyalty is earned and none of those people earned his. I’m 100% sure that if Rachel had been a true friend to him, he would have shared the money.

  22. Diane Says:
    September 11th, 2012 at 8:26 pm

Nick is a ZERO! He did nothing to distinguish himself and no one even noticed him until there were so few left you had to. Just a jerk who thinks he’s hot. He really does need the money, though, since no woman would ever want him for his looks, personality or sense of decency.

  23. Christina Says:
    September 11th, 2012 at 9:49 pm

Yes, I agree with his decision and I think that he played very well. He managed to stay low key out of drama even with the mean crowd trying to run the show. Not only did he make it to the end, as an outcast, practically ALONE, dragging along his miserable partner, he then made the biggest play of the game by convincing his her to eliminate her best friend!!! That is a great game player if I have ever seen one. Great job Nick you deserve it! Her and her best friend were snobby mean girls and it came back to haunt them both.

  24. JL Says:
    September 11th, 2012 at 10:05 pm

There is something more important than winning a game. You don’t win by destroying your partner, just doesn’t sound right. Nick has much to learn.

    he better
Watch his ass because who want to be with someone like that and if they do want to be with him. That person willbe just as bad as him!
Life is always funny. I hope Nick does not end up to be a lonely sad man. Money is not everything.

I think he’s a sleazebag. He also convinced her to send Ed and her best friend on their way, which almost cost her their whole friendship.

I think $125.00 was plenty to win and still keep some shred of decency. What a creep. A major loser in my book.

  27. Dillan Says:

Job well done Nick!I for one love a good case where the underdog comes out the winner in the end! Nobody cared about Nick in the least including Rachel, he’s owes her nothing! I think it’s hysterical that people are hating on him for not “doing the right thing” by sharing. Afterall people… it’s The Bachelor Pad not the Seminary! Everyone who signed up for that show knew that the game consists of lying, cheating, and manipulating…why is everyone so shocked! Proud of you Nick for standing up for yourself!

All of you who commend his decision are just as disgusting as him. He did nothing to make it into the finals but ride along on Rachel’s coat-tails. Don’t you get it, if she had decided to leave the game, he would have been gone too! He did NOTHING to deserve that money! And now some of you praise his unabashed greed! So sad, our morals and values in this country are going to hell. All I can say to Nick is “Karma is a bitch”

  32. Brian Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 8:37 am

It was a game move that was within the rules and had a significant amount of risk. Why people are demonzing him is beyond me! Why should anyone feel bad for Rachel? Do you feel bad for any of the other contestants that did not win and call the people that voted them out and lied to them names??? Of course not so why is Nick so bad for making the same game moves?? He used a legitimate strategy of staying under the radar and made the move when he had to. He owed nothing to Rachel, he made it there himself so I say congrats to him!

  33. Diane Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 8:37 am

The really sad thing is the number of people that are now applauding backstabbing, cheating, and lying in the name of game playing.Don’t think for one minute that this won’t eventually tranfer to real life. We have become a Roman Circus!

  34. J Mack Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 10:54 am

What gets me is that others in the house were saying that Nick did what “they” said. So, what were all the people in the alliance doing…ummm the same thing what “they” said? Rachel was doing what her alliance told her to do as well – so why does that make her more deserving Jacelyn? I think Nick was a little in your face about winning – but I can see what point he was trying to get across. The others did not take him seriously, didn’t care what he had to say and treated him like crap. Go back and listen what they said about him in the private interviews…he probably saw all those things while watching the show and it made him even more angry. Even on the night of the final vote, “Rachel’s friends” were still disrespecting him. As far as Rachel goes of course you have to be an a$$ not to feel sorry for her (eye roll), she lost love, she didn’t take her “bestie” to the final 4 in order to get a piece of the money and then she walked away with nothing – she is going to need therapy after this. The only thing she walks away with is that she did the right thing by choosing to share the money. The thing is would Jacelyn have given Rachel a piece of the winnings if Jacelyn would have won the money? Was Rachel planning on throwing a bone Jacelyn’s way – we will never know….. It is a game and for the first time Kalan is right – what is the definition of “deserve”? Do any of these people really “deserve” money? The answer is no, but they were picked to play a game and the prize was money at the expense of looking riduculous on T.V. …… this show is my guilty pleaser :)

  35. Karyn Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 11:08 am

    Way to go Nick!

Rachel didn’t deserve a thing. She was nasty to him and wouldn’t have even made it that far without Michael and Jaclyn. She didn’t do a darn thing and looked to others to carry her all the way to the end.

As far as her being the next Bachelorette, she is so low class and overly emotional. Not to mention not very bright. She is such a cut below past Bachelorettes.

  36. Maggie Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 12:25 pm

If not for Rachel, Nick would not have made it to the end. For him to blame her about hurting his feelings is a load of BS. He said that and more before the reveal to justify his creepy actions. She was hurt about Micael, and needed to vent. None of it was really serious. She was in the game til the end. Rachel wanted Ed and Jaclyn and finally had to decide, which by the way, I have no doubt that Jaclyn, if in Rachel’s, place would have decided the same way, and chosen Chris and Sarah. Jaclyn is no angel. For her to have kept on that tirade was unfit “friend” material. Nick simply is not a nice person. Nor is Chris and Kalon. Too young. Nick did not play the game well. He was not purposely playing under the radar, it just looks that way because he was and is more introverted, not smarter and certainly not brilliant. But he did get lucky because of Rachel. She was half of the Sister Christian act and was the better half of it. He did not do this on his own. She was better than him in that show and she finally agreed to his decision regarding who to take to the finale. Nick is a peabrain and he is exactly what Rachel called him at the end. I hope and pray Rach gets chosen as the next bachelorette.

  37. Ida Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 12:51 pm

I don’t care whether or not this was a “Game” and yeah, Nick played it well but at who’s expense? He claims he did this all on his own and deserved the money. Funny but I recall seeing Rachel up on the stage singing with Nick in the competition that got them to the Finale. Perhaps he needs glasses since he doesn’t seem to recall that he wasn’t alone up on that stage. At any rate it goes to show that GREED was what motivated him and nothing more.

  38. Sonya Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 1:30 pm

I say GOOD JOB Nick. He owed Rachel absolutely nothing. She was not nice to him nor was anyone else on the show really. All she could do was boo hoo all the time and she didn’t even want to finish the game. She is the pathetic one. And, Rachel for the next Bachlorette? Are you kidding me. I could not watch anymore, she is way too emotional and unstable to handle the pressure of that. Nick did exactly what he should have!

  39. Barb Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 2:00 pm

  41. Ida Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Regardless of whether or not this was a “Game” Nick was not there by himself as he claimed to be. If I recall correctly I believe that Rachel was indeed on stage with him during the last competition that won them a chance to be in the finale. Perhaps he needs glasses if he still believes he did this all by himself. It just goes to show that GREED was Nick’s only motivation.

  42. Debbie Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 4:28 pm

Nick played the GAME well. The name of the game is to win $250k. I would have done the same. All Rachel cared about was her and Michael. Well look at Michael, he’s a loser. I liked him on the previous shows but he is not the person I thought he was, he’s a PIG. Everyone thought Nick shouldn’t be there and that’s funny considering they were sitting in the losers seats. I’ve been watching those shows since they first started and it’s about time someone showed them how it’s done. Hold your head up high Nick, you played well and deserved to win.

  43. Jan Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 4:42 pm

    Go Nick.
Was it nice? No. But the game wasn’t nice. And he played the nasty game right to the end. No one was nice to him so why should he be nice?

    He’s probably a nice guy.

  44. Emily Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 4:59 pm

Honestly, Nick was right about him having been neglected by most all throughout the season, and for the other contestants’ attitude towards him alone, I think he did the right thing…to an extent. There are ways and ways to behave, and he chose that of a sore winner. He could have acted more gracefully, and with greater pride, but he chose to laugh in Rachel’s face, which was in poor taste, I believe.
His behavior overall was quite poor, actually…. Karma’s a b-tch, however, and he’ll get his, I’m sure.

  45. Kate Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 6:59 pm

Good job Nick! I don’t blame him at all for taking all the money and I support him for doing so. Rachel is not a great person, I was never a fan of her. She’s just fake like most of the woman.

I kept forgetting that Nick was there. His name never came up in any way, good or bad. He didn’t have any friendship with Rachel and she never gave him a chance. Not saying they have to date because they are working together, but she wasn’t ever nice to him or even talked to the guy.

Great job Nick. Totally an underdog move and I was cheering for you as soon as I saw it. Totally awesome.

This is what i think. From racheals point of view she lost a guy whom she thought could fall in love with, and he led her on so shhe was mopy for nothing. Nick convinced her to take out her best friend, so that they would win, and he new all along its was for him. She lost everything friends, partnership, love, and the money. I think as a human being he should have ben more concideret. That hurt me, so i feel for her, and nick is a jerk. ” Money is Dirty”

  47. Dlandlrd Says:
    September 12th, 2012 at 9:17 pm

I laughed at the ending. The fact that most of the game was played with a huge “friendship” alliance group of players who would usually stick to their friends. When someone like Nick comes along and is bashed by the popular friends the whole game, he has to survive alone. They used him the whole game, bad mouthed him and kept him around for their benefit. Rachel acts like a spoiled “entitled” brat who always gets what she wants. But when she doesnt her true colors show in her actions and words. Nick would probably never associate with these people again since they really didnt care for him to begin with. By convincing Rachel to vote out her best friend, it showed that Rachel can lie and deceive and Nick was wise to risk all the money by saying “Keep” when Rachel proved she could do the same to him. Nick will walk away with 250K and never deal with these people again and he wont lose any sleep over not dealing with them again. GREAT GAME PLAY NICK! Great win!

  48. Lucia Says:

Right or wrong, I find it disturbing that so many people are championing his decision in spite of Rachel being his partner. Yes, life can be “just a game” for many, but the reality factor plays heavily in this. Trust is real, feelings are real, commitments are made notwithstanding.Rachel will come out the better for this, I have no doubt. Nick will go through the money and be the lesser human being for his decision. That is simply how it works in the overall scheme of things!

  49. Liza Says:
    September 13th, 2012 at 11:11 am

Nick was utterly disgusting. When the only two people that gave him praise for what he did were Chris and Kailon, that spoke volumes on what kind of decision he made – purely selfish and evil. He had it in his mind all along, all the built up anger inside of him came out in the end. If he had to explain in such lengthy way why he deserved the money the way that he did, he knew deep down inside that he didn’t deserve it at all. It was a partnership with Rachel why he got to the top. The people in the house wouldn’t have voted for him at all if he was the only one standing there. He’s not an underdog, he is extremely insecure and he knows it. That’s why he was burning up inside. He may have won the money, but he is the biggest loser in my eyes. Enjoy your money while you have it Nick, because once it’s gone, you are left with nothing. A person like him – untrustworthy snake has no morals, no character, no heart, just completely empty inside, will not attract or have any true loyal friends/relationship. It’s a very sad way to live. I’m glad Chris said that his father and family let him have it, I hope Nick’s family does the same to him. What a way to show your true colors on national tv. I pity him.

Good on you, Nick! I could not have been more happy with the outcome of BP3. “Flying under the radar” is definitely a legitimate strategy in these types of contests, and he obviously did it very well… lasted ’til the end, and won the $$. Rachel’s “Woe is Me” pity party is what cost her $125K. If she had kept her head in the game and stayed actively engaged for her and Nick (not for skeezy Michael), I wholeheartedly believe Nick would have chosen to share.

Nick is a liar and a dirt bag. In the trailer after the show it came out that he told her he was going to vote “share” in the finale. If it hadn’t have been for her singing ability, he would not have been there. So he lied to her and stabbed her in the back, even after he found out she was heartbroken from lies from Michael. How much more heartless can a guy be? What goes around comes around. Enjoy your money Nick. No intelligent woman will ever be able to trust you. Enjoy your empty, lonely life where the only thing that matters is you.

Nick’s action was despicable. It was selfish and cold-hearted. His was wrong when he said he got there all on his own. Neither he nor Rachel got there all on their own; they got there by working together. That was BOTH of them doing the best they could on stage singing “Sister Christian.” And BOTH of them doing the best they could in all the other trials they went through. Why was he focusing on an earlier time when she didn’t want to be his partner and he didn’t want to be hers? In the end she came through for him and wanted to share the money with him. But he did not come through for her. He continued holding a grudge against her for something in the past that had already changed by the end of the show. He also seemed to hold a grudge against everyone in the house for every little perceived wrong against him. In his final speech he sounded like a crazed postal worker who was about to open fire on everyone for all their little wrongs against hjm that he couldn’t let go of. If it was just a game, Nick, why did you take everything so personally and want revenge? You should be ashamed of yourself.

I meant to say, “He was wrong,” not “His was wrong.” I apologize for that and other typos.

HAHAHA NICK IS MY MAN. I UNDERSTAND YOU BROSKI. 1st off no one deserves the money. They offer it so you little upper class kids can act like idiots on TV. 2nd of all everyone knows you have to lie cheat and manipulate to get to the end. Not a single cast mate has not been caught in a lie of some kind PERIOD. So all these upper class kids form a union and leave Nick odd man out. The best part is HE KNEW IT. So he plays dumb jock while everyone else devour each other until he is left with no other choice but to partner up. He does not owe Rachel squat. she was crying over Michael the whole time and didn’t even care Nick was there. And Nick ain’t CAPTAIN SAVE A HO. So he waited till the very last minute to do his key plays when he was in the driver seat. Told Rachel to knock off her friend and then share the money. hahahhaha. Everyone so sorry for Rachel. Why she was so gulible so niave to trust someone who was his partner for only a couple weeks. REALLY? HOW DOES THAT MAKE HER LOOK? SOME GUY TELLS HER DO SOMETHING AND SHE BARELY KNOWS HIM AND SHE DROPS HER BEST FRIEND FOR HIM. COME ON. IF ANYTHING SHE IS WORST THEN NICK. SHE BETRAYED HER FRIEND FOR YEARS FOR SOME DUDE WHO SAID 10 WORDS THE WHOLE SEASON. LOL YOU THE MAN NICK. YOU THE MAN.

For years? Cmon. Rachel and Jaclyn have been friends since Ben’s season. That was less than a year ago. Learn math, please.

    This was a game!
Everyone went into the game for the exact same reason- the money. Everyone tried to play the game in their heads and wound up with the same conclusion. Nobody was out to make friends or find love, and priority was- the prize.
Because it is a game, rules change and you have to accept them and carry on, they were put there to test you. You have fooled nobody but yourselves.
Everyone had someone or something to blame for their loss in the game, and it does not make sense to blame Nick for playing the game fairly and winning.
There were alliances being made, lies being fed, friends betraying each other; to top it off a final decision that wasn’t any less dirtier then the ones by everyone else throughout the game.
Rachael does not deserve any more sympathy then the rest of the cast on the show that had the same heavy weights to carry and were hurt and betrayed.
She was the furthest to have made it in the game as a real snake. She lied and betrayed just as Nick had supposedly lied and betrayed her, (except you kind of have to be a friend or form a real relationship to do that). Nick and Rachael’s relationship was fake phony and yes, forced just as many were except as a partner in that situation Rachael was acting like the tornado, a whirlwind of indecisiveness and an emotional wreck. She was a ghost in her so called partnership with Nick as Nick was on the show.
I think Rachel got a good dose of what the game was really about just as everyone else did, and should not be sympathized with for not getting what she expected. Everyone felt like they could taste the money and thought they had it all figured out. Nobody had, including Rachael, and especially Nick.
In my opinion, Rachael is one of the last person to have deserved the money if we want to get into that side of the game. She played every dirty card, and proved to be nothing but a fake schemer. She sat there at the finale acting for the audience, claiming her and Nick ended up forming this great relationship and trust. Complete bullshit, and she proves that again with her reaction to Nicks final decision.
She was upset because she didn’t win the money, she could care less about Nick and everything else she claimed to value: such as their pact, and Nick as a person. She has betrayed not only someone, but her own best friend, and for her to be so shocked and feel so betrayed by her fake partner is sad. She admitted she never liked him all along. So again, another scheme in a game, all for the prize: money.
Nick played the game terribly, yet was given the chance of a lifetime, and made the smartest, bravest move he could make.
Nick was attached the money throughout the whole game. Focused, was not tricked or fooled by love or drama. He may not be the most entertaining, clever or brightest cast member, but at least he was honest and stood by his word- to himself.
Boo hoo Rachael, you were such a roller coaster ride to watch, you barely knew what you wanted therefore did not show enough desire to stand as a winner. You are a sore loser, I commend Jaclyn for taking you back, she truly is a sweet, loyal friend and I think everyone is glad it came to bite you back in the ass. You should be less upset you lost the money, and more excited to have given a second chance with your bestfriend. By your reaction, Im sure if you were given the same opportunity, you would play the game the exact same way, dirty. It bothered me to see you switch faces so quickly within the hour and act as if someone had taken the money away from you.
It wasn’t yours in the first place, and to show an equal amount of emotion to losing money- to losing a friend, is pretty sad.
