MasterChef Season Three is coming to a close. Who will win the coveted apron, the cookbook and the cash? Christine Ha? Or Josh Marks? Let the face off begin!
The MasterChef judges bring out the families of Christine Ha and Josh Marks with visits from their families. The out with the families, it’s time to get cooking!
Christine Ha and Josh Marks have two hours to create a three-course meal, an appetizer, entrée and dessert. The winner will have made the overall best meal.
The judges think Josh’s dishes are very filling and won’t work well together. Joe is concerned about Josh’s a pecan pie with bacon in the crust. Josh puts a whole lobster into the processor even though Joe tells him it could ruin his chances. Josh is undeterred.
Time is up and the judges head to the MasterChef Restaurant. First is Josh’s appetizer, Butter Poached Lobster with Grits and Sweet Potato Puree. Gordon Ramsay says the lobster is under cooked. Graham says the lobster is making him question the dish. Christine’s appetizer is Thai Papaya Salad with Crab and Mixed Vegetables. Joe says the star in this dish is the dressing and Graham says he wishes there was more crab. Gordon Ramsay says he wants more from it.
Entrees are up next and Josh went with Rack of Lamb with Green Curry Sauce, Spring Peas and Carrots. Chef Ramsay tells him it was cooked absolutely beautiful, but he plated it with the wrong vegetables. Joe calls it an excellent dish. Christine made Braised Pork Belly with Rice, Crispy Kale and Maitake Mushrooms. Chef Ramsay said it is a weighted entrée. Graham says it lacks in appearance but is great on taste. Joe says he wants some acidic on it.
Finally it comes down to the desserts. Seems Christine has the edge on the appetizer but Josh impressed with the main course. Josh made Bacon Crusted Pecan Pie with Vanilla Cinnamon Ice Cream. Graham calls the crust a little oily, but the ice cream is awesome. Joe really likes the ice cream and says it has great consistency. Gordon Ramsay says the ice cream is perfect and the pastry is decent. He questions the use of bacon because he could barely taste it, so why bother? Christine made Coconut Lime Sorbet with Ginger Tuile. Graham says the tuile is great but he was left wanting some acidic lime flavor. The dish took on more of the coconut sorbet. Joe likes the texture and Gordon Ramsay says it’s perfect after pork belly.
The judges go back for their final pow wow. Who will it be? Christine had good menu that was solid, but Josh was a little more daring with more original dishes. The judges finally return to announce that the the MasterChef Season 3 winner is Christine! Congratulations!
What do you guys think? Short of having tasted her food, do you feel that Christine was the clear choice? What dishes do you hope that she’ll include in her MasterChef cookbook?
That’s a wrap for Season 3 of MasterChef! They’re already auditioning home cooks for season 4. Do you have what it takes?
