Sharon Osbourne And Julie Chen Go Sans Makeup On The Talk

September 11, 2012 08:30 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

We’re accustomed to seeing Sharon Osbourne covered in makeup on America’s Got Talent, (same goes for Big Brother’s Julie Chen) so when The Talk announced that its hosts would be going bare-faced for its season 3 premiere, we were curious to see what would happen. Turns out, Sharon and Julie looks pretty darn good with fresh faces!

In a world in which every minuscule flaw is endlessly criticized, appearing on national television without any makeup might seem a bit scary. But the hosts of The Talk were up for the challenge! Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Aisha Tyler and Sheryl Underwood opened up the new season by prancing on stage in comfy robes and absolutely no makeup. Although they appeared a bit uncomfortable at first, the hosts quickly warmed up, encouraged by plenty of cheering from the audience.

Celeb guest Jamie Lee Curtis also left the makeup at home, praising The Talk hosts for making a truly revolutionary move. “The impact this is gonna have, you have no idea.” Julie Chen agreed with Curtis, but also protested that she really wanted to buy what Curtis termed as “advertising lies.” Curtis’ response was that makeup was not inherently bad; it just needs to be used to accent natural beauty, instead of as a mask to hide behind.

Sharon Osbourne was quick to admit that, despite the lack of makeup, her look didn’t exactly qualify as au naturale. “It’s all bought and paid for,” Osbourne said, referencing the well-known fact that she’s undergone plastic surgery multiple times. She added that, in addition to the plastic surgery, “I dyed my eyebrows, I dyed my eyelashes.”

Although the hosts of The Talk largely considered their experiment a success, they admitted no desire to go makeup-free on a daily basis. Sheryl Underwood explained, “It’s refreshing, but tomorrow we’ll be right back [wearing makeup].”
