America’s Next Top Model Recap: Zombie Apocalypse

September 14, 2012 08:12 PM by Stephanie Gustafson

The college edition of America’s Next Top Model has not been particularly great thus far, but we’e hoping things will change for the better during tonight’s episode. This week, the contestants get to work on acting! Obviously, this will go better for some than others..

We start off with Victoria claiming the Tyra suite all to herself. And all the others are secretly (or not so secretly) thinking, “that bitch!” C’mon, did you really think Victoria was going to share her special room with all these godless heathens?!

More drama! Everyone thinks that Kristin is a beautiful girl, but they hate her personality. Kristin and Destiny end up duking it out after Kristin’s caught snooping through Destiny’s purse. The fight gives way to confession time. We learn that Destiny has been through some hard times, having been kicked out by her mom at 14. And Kristin’s confessions? She’s trying to get everyone pissed off enough to beat on her so that they get kicked out. She apparently can’t win on her own merit, so this is the next best tactic.

The big guest of the day is Tyler Perry, the king of transformations. He tells the model that their big challenge completely different characters. They have to dress up all crazy and then go out on the street and play a part. Victoria is actually one of the more entertaining actresses of the bunch — she plays the attention-seeking diva. She gets food thrown at her by a passerby, but takes it in stride. Kiara also makes a great diva and Tyler Perry agrees, awarding her the top spot for the challenge.

Next, it’s off to Universal Studios and the set of War of the Worlds. The models get to work on the transformation process again, but this time, they’re going to be  zombies! Some contestants do better with the zombie look than others. Kristin is particularly problematic, as she goes out of her way to insult the photographer. Here’s a tip Kristin: the photographer is the wrong person to piss off!

Stars of the shoot include Leila, Nastasia and Laura. Unfortunately, the photographer accuses Nastasia of photographing “short.” Whatever, she still looks amazing! The rest of the models shoot their photos with varying levels of success and then head home to relax.

This week’s Tyra mail announces another appearance in front of the judging panel. Kristin cements her status as the season’s bitch by once again attacking Victoria. She may not be the most likeable contestant, but come on, Victoria was just reading the Tyra mail out loud.

The judges’ favorites are pretty obvious, with Leila first up on the chopping block. She manages to land a score of 9, which is quite the accomplishment. But Brittany’s picture also attracts fans, mostly because of her creative use of the vaccuum cleaner. Laura is also popular; she really knows how to stare down that camera!

Time to learn who gets the ax this week! Laura wins best photo and best social media score. Despite her terrible photo and general bitchiness, Kristin manages to avoid the bottom two. Instead, Destiny and Yvonne get those two dreaded spots. Social media is added in, and, predictably, Destiny is out of the competition.

Despite our hopes, this episode didn’t deliver. The zombies are cool, but something about this format still rubs us the wrong way. Will Tyra ever bring back the show’s old spark? Stay tuned to find out!

I find this new addition of ANTM so weird. I don’t care for the judges or the whole set-up for the show this year. Tyra’s attempt at re-vamping this show so far rates a 0 for me.

The last two (including this one)seasons have been less than remarkable…usually an indication that the show is getting old and tired.
