He may not have won season 8 of Dancing with the Stars, but according to legions of fans (and pro dancer Kym Johnson), Gilles Marini is the all-star contestant to beat this fall. That’s a lot of pressure to have riding on your head a week before the show even begins! How is Gilles handling the scrutiny so far?
This season of Dancing with the Stars is poised to be one of the most competitive, given the return of several former champs and top 3 dancers. Gilles Marini is one of the former top 3 performers and he is expected to reach the top of the leaderboard again this season.
In a recent interview with Examiner, Gilles said that, although he certainly is dealing with a lot of pressure, he’s not as worried about going home a champion this time around. “This season is a celebration. Yes, people will compete but I am not paying so much attention to that. I wanna shine and show all my fans out there that it was worth it to tune in and watch our dances.”
This is probably a smart tactic to take, because with so many amazing dancers, paying too much attention to the competition could get super nerve-wracking! When asked about his biggest competition, Gilles was unable to provide an answer, thanks to the caliber of this season’s dancers. “Every one of them [is my biggest competition]. But I don’t even think of it. I am an actor that is trying to make people happy by performing. That is all I am concentrating on. I want to work very hard and make everyone remember every single one of our dances. I am my worst critic and that is enough pressure—just from myself.”
We’re expecting great things from Gilles this season! How about you? Share your predictions in the comments section below!
