Tension Mounts Between Nicki Minaj And Mariah Carey

September 17, 2012 10:00 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

The official announcement about Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban joining American Idol just arrived yesterday. That means Nicki Minaj has made it an entire 24 hours without bringing her usual drama to the Idol judging panel! Unfortunately, the drama-free period appears to be over, for there can only be one diva ruling the roost on American Idol!

When rumors swirled surrounding Mariah Carey’s displeasure at having Nicki Minaj recruited for the American Idol judging panel, we knew it would only be so long before a full-on battle ensued. And that’s what Idol wants, right? When ratings sink, the best way to pick ‘em up is with a battle of the divas.

According to TMZ, Mariah and Nicki were already feuding on the first day of taping! One source explained that, while the two were mostly trying to keep things civil, it was clear to onlookers that, “these girls just don’t like each other.”

The bickering was supposedly initiated by Mariah, who would interrupt Nicki’s comments to provide her own critiques. Nicki would then retaliate by trying to talk over Mariah. The bickering quickly led to headaches for everyone unfortunate enough to be within earshot.

We won’t know for sure how this judging match-up pans out until the American Idol premiere airs. But we’re sure that the new judging panel will be an interesting one! And we won’t be surprised if FOX plays up the whole Mariah vs Nicki thing. After all, the network is desperate for ratings!

What do you think of the new judges? Do they spell American Idol’s doom? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below!

What did they expect? Nicki is too much of a diva (bad way) to work in a team. If she can’t get center stage with talent or knowledge, she will behave badly to get attention. Personlly, I won’t watch her.
The show should be about helping young singers get better as the weeks go on. It is not about judges getting face time for their sound bytes.
Thank goodness for DVRs that can override the junk.
I hope there is non junk to see this year.
