Chris Brown, sort of famous for being a singer and very famous a woman-beater, is capitalizing on the latter to aid his career as the former. A music store in Cambridge, England sold Brown’s album, “Fortune,” with yellow “warning” labels on them that read, “Warning: Do not buy this album! This man beats women!” Unfortunately, it didn’t have the consequences they intended for the former “American Idol” guest performer.
To date, the most successful way to sell albums to young people has been to post so-called warning labels on them. But then, what do people in Cambridge know?
“We were as surprised as anyone when the stickers appeared in one of our stores outside of London at the back end of last week,” a spokesperson for the store said.
“Obviously, someone must have snuck in to put them on a handful of CDs, and although they weren’t up very long before staff removed them, the person responsible managed to take a snap and send it out to media.”
Not surprisingly, the publicity stunt has gained significant media attention to the album, which otherwise might have to rely on Chris Brown’s “talent” as a musical performer.
“I guess they got their point across pretty effectively with widespread coverage … quite a few more people now know there’s a new Chris Brown album out,” added the spokesperson.
As they say, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
Meanwhile, Chris’s probation hearing was pushed back to give authorities more time to complete a probation report in his assault case. He had been scheduled to appear in court on Monday, but the district attorney’s office says the proceedings are being delayed for a week. A judge has ordered an audit of Brown’s community service after a prosecutor said there were some questions about how many hours he had actually performed.
It was unclear how many hours Brown spent licking yellow warning stickers and labeling his albums.
