Are Madonna and Lady Gaga really feuding? It’s been quite a summer for the fellow pop stars who are both on tour. Currently, Madonna is on her MDNA World Tour while Lady Gaga is on The Born This Way Ball tour. It seems it all began in January during an interview with ABC in which Madonna said Lady Gaga’s song, “Born This Way” was “reductive” because of its similarities to her 1989 hit, “Express Yourself.” Since then, Madonna has continued to talk about Mother Monster while the former So You Think You Can Dance judge, Lady Gaga recently had a few things to say about Madge. Keep reading to find out what Madonna has been saying and how Lady Gaga responded!
Over the weekend in New Jersey at Atlantic City’s historic Boardwalk Hall, Madonna dedicated her song “Masterpiece” to Lady Gaga and told a sold out crowd, “I’m going to dedicate this next song to Lady Gaga! Do you want to know something? I love her. I love her. I do love her. Imitation is the highest form of flattery! And one day, very soon we’re going to be on the stage together–just you wait.”
After the dedication, she performed a mash-up of her “Express Yourself” and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way;” followed by snippets of “She’s Not Me” from Madonna’s 2008 album, Hard Candy.
The 54 year-old has made similar comments all summer which led to Lady Gaga’s response a few weeks ago saying, “It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make mockery of their work and that doesn’t make me feel good at all. That just makes me feel like I’m not being a good human being. I feel like if you’re a really good human being you can try to find something beautiful in every single person no matter what and it’s a challenge but at the end of the day I learned so much this year about that.”
The 26 year-old continued, “I learned a lot about negativity, I learned a lot about people trying to tear you down, and I’m just not that person and I never will be. I don’t even want to fight back because it’s more important to me to keep writing music because that’s really all I care about is the music.”
While Lady Gaga didn’t mention Madonna by name, she did add, “Things are really different now than they were 25 years ago, and that’s what makes “Born This Way” so relevant for me is that I really want you all to notice this tremendous place that we are in now. We’re socially in a different place and it’s ok, we don’t have to all slice and hate each other anymore.”
