It was another night full of good music (and lots of nervousness) during last night’s Blind Auditions on The Voice, but the artists weren’t the only thing fans were buzzing about. Tuesday was the first episode of the NBC show that’s aired since news broke that Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green would be taking a hiatus for Season 4. So how do the contestants feel about being some of the last artists to compete on Teams X-Tina and Red Zone…at least until Season 5?
In an interview with the press, the newest members of Team Cee Lo and Team Christina opened up about their time with their superstar coaches, and news that they’ll be replaced by Usher and Shakira next season.
For many, Cee Lo and Christina were the reasons that they auditioned for the show in the first place, so it’s hard to imagine seeing those red chairs turn around with different people in them for Season 5.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Cee Lo before he leaves the show,” Ben Taub tells RTVM, adding that the whole experience has been “surreal” thus far.
“[It's been an] unbelievably eye-opening experience,” teammate Todd Kessler chimes in. For Kessler, though most would think that Green “doesn’t seem like a great fit on the surface,” because Cee Lo’s such an “eclectic,” “down to earth” artist, the collaboration has worked well.
Todd admits that although Cee Lo has always been one of his favorite parts of the show, he doesn’t know how Usher and Shakira will change the dynamic, or how they would’ve mentored him differently; but he’s 100% sure that he’s blessed to be working with the successful singer/rapper/songwriter.
“It’ll be sad to see the show lose a coach like that,” says Emily Earle, commenting on Green’s “variety.”
Members of Team Christina echoed the sentiment that they’re happy to have the opportunity to work with the powerhouse singer before her temporary exit from the show, but Adam Levine‘s contestants are equally thrilled to be working with the Maroon 5 front man — even though he’s not going anywhere any time soon (we hope!).
“I think that we’re a really good fit. It was an amazing time in my life, for sure. It was kind of unexpected. He just really made my day. What can I say,” says Mycle Wystman, with Benji adding, “Working with Adam has been a dream.”
