Breaking Amish Recap: New Clothes, Naughty Lingerie, And A Tattoo

September 23, 2012 10:30 PM by Melissa Stavarski

Last week on TLC‘s  Breaking Amish, the cast arrived in New York City. Sabrina, Abe, and Rebecca explored the simpler things, like alarm clocks and light switches, until Kate and Jeremiah arrived. Their addition shifted the focus to alcohol, chicks, and mean girl antics. This week, if you took a shot every time Rebecca said “totally,” you were probably passed out before the end of the show. Catch the details below!

A “bunch” of Amish show up New York City. The hotel staff gets a little nervous… the Amish apocalypse is coming, the Amish apocalypse is coming! No worries, it’s just Rebecca’s grandfather and Abe’s mother.

Abe’s mother tells him she’s there to bring him home. And, if he decides not to come home, she threatens to stay there with him. Party boy Jeremiah is like, Oh, hell no! Abe agrees. He says, “She aint going to ruin my party. I’m here to have fun, and she knows that.”

Abe’s mother tries guilt next. She tells him her life will be “really hard” without him. Abe holds firm, he vows to finish what he started. Abe throws his mom a bone, telling her that nothing beats her food. Abe’s mom goes home, but not before Abe and his mother share a very heartfelt weird handshake. Abe shakes his mom’s hand and says, “Thanks for the support.” The exchange looks more like a political rally – thanks for support, handshake, vote for me button – than a mother and son saying goodbye, possibly forever.

While Rebecca, Abe, Kate, and Sabrina experience sushi for the first time, Jeremiah goes off on his own. He says, “I didn’t come to New York to hang out with Amish people. I came here to live like regular people, so I’m going to do whatever the hell I want.” Jeremiah goes big with trendy English clothes and a tattoo.

When Jeremiah meets up with the rest of the group, they’re shocked to see his new look. Sabrina gives him a hug. Rebecca tells him he looks “totally” hot.

Jeremiah’s new look inspires the others to shop for English clothes for themselves. Kate goes very “business like” with a new red (oh, the horrors of red!) jacket. Rebecca’s look is typical for her age.. but she’s hiding some very naughty lingerie under her jeans and tee. Abe tries on bright orange cargo shorts and a green and white plaid button-down shirt. Jeremiah tells him there’s no way he’s hanging out with him looking like that. Abe’s only concern, though, is hooking up with impressing Rebecca. Jeremiah asks, “Are you going to git ‘er done?” (Do the Amish folk watch Larry the Cable Guy?) Abe is confident that he will, in fact, git ‘er done.

Abe goes on and on about how smart, fun, and awesome Rebecca is. Jeremiah isn’t sold on Rebecca… he’s like, more power to you, Abe, but I don’t see it.

Rebecca and Kate both came to New York City with dreams of being a model. And, thanks to TLC their Google skills, they score an interview with a modeling agency. Rebecca shares that the agency “totally” likes Kate right away, as she’s all in her “business suit” and being “prissy.” The modeling agency tells Kate that she has potential but she needs to clear up her skin, get into shape, and “take down” her measurements. Kate confirms, “You mean lose a couple of pounds?” They say yes.

Rebecca is appalled that  they expect the already stick-thin Kate to lose weight. She says, “You have to be freaking kidding me… That’s “totally” not for me.” Rebecca is over the model thing. She explains, “One of the reasons I left the Amish is so I don’t have to be criticized anymore.”

You know what/who Rebecca is NOT over? Abe! When he asks her out on a date, she accepts and says she feels “awesome.”

Jeremiah goes to Queens for a driving lesson. He needs his license so he can 1. drive for living and 2. pick up hot chicks. Right on cue, a “hot chick” walks down the street, and Jeremiah takes out a few orange cones to look. When Jeremiah’s driving instructor asks him to get his act together, Jeremiah is like, “But she had a nice a**! You didn’t see that?”

Breaking Amish airs Sundays at 10/9 CT on TLC. Next week on Breaking Amish, we learn more about Rebecca’s (lack of) teeth. Also, Kate drinks too much and pole dances.

Are these Amish people benefiting in any way from this type exploitation? If they ever get a tattoo they can cover it up with one of these: http://www.tat2x.com/

I lived in a Mennonite Community, and attended college there.
One of the girls says she is Mennonite, and described a week ago how harsh and mean her family is, and how badly the community treats her. I don’t know where she was from, but I never experienced that at all, and felt love and acceptance from the entire community, and it was pretty obvious that I hadn’t lived there or grown up there.
I’ve also lived in Ohio, where many Amish groups live. My husband’s family have had much interaction with the Amish, and have hired the groups many times to help with building projects. They are happy, willing to work, and very appreciative of the interaction as well as the pay (which is a LOT less than a general contractor would charge).
This show looks pretty fake to me, or else they chose the meanest parents and kids in the entire community. Sorry, it doesn’t fly with me.
