We love Tom Bergeron to pieces, so we were pretty excited to learn that the host of Dancing with the Stars managed to snag an Emmy! Bergeron easily beat out competitors Cat Deeley, Phil Keoghan, Ryan Seacrest and even Betty White to top the Reality Host category. Take that Jeff Probst!
Tom Bergeron is coming away from the 2012 Emmy Awards a big winner! After being nominated once again for the Reality Host, Bergeron finally won an Emmy in this competitive category. This latest award is Bergeron’s first Emmy since 2000, when he won Outstanding Game Show Host for his work on Hollywood Squares. And since the Hollywood Squares award was a Daytime Emmy, this marks Bergeron’s first Primetime Emmy!
We were expecting great things from Bergeron’s speech, which is why we were a bit disappointed when it turned into little more than a plug for tomorrow’s Dancing with the Stars premiere. He did have a funny bit during which he mentioned how happy he was to beat out Betty White. “This is particularly satisfying because Betty White always kicks my ass in our mixed-martial arts class.”
As for thank-you’s? Tom Bergeron was nothing but gracious. “I want to thank Jeff Probst — for not being nominated.” Because we all know, sure as you’re born, that Jeff Probst would definitely have won it all had he been nominated. This year marks the first in which the Survivor host will not be able to line his shelf with a new trophy from the Emmy Awards. Poor guy.
Did you think Tom Bergeron deserved to win the award for Best Reality Host? Or did you have someone else in mind? Feel free to share your reactions to this year’s Emmy Awards in the comments section below!
