The X Factor Recap: Save The Best For Last?

September 27, 2012 09:56 PM by Melissa Stavarski

Did The X Factor save the best for last? Well, I thought the last of the The X Factor auditions were underwhelming, but judges L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears, and Simon Cowell were quite pleased with the talent they found in San Francisco. What did you think?

Trevor Moran, 13

Trevor loves to dance and sing. Like,  a lot, and his self esteem is, umm, very healthy. There’s a fine line between enthralling and annoying, and Trevor is dangerously close to crossing over into the annoying zone. When it’s Trevor’s time to take the stage, nobody can find him. The camera cuts to him lying on the ground and barely responsive.

Paramedics find Trevor to be severely dehydrated. Trevor drinks, bounces back, and takes the stage. Simon cuts to the chase, basically telling the kid, ‘glad you’re well.. don’t blow it now.’ Kid looks like he’s going to pass out again. Cue the music… LMFAO’s “I’m Sexy and I know It”! Too funny! I don’t think Trevor has the best voice, but it’s impossible to look away.  He even busts out a wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.

L.A. says, “You owned the stage and rocked the house. Everything The X Factor is all about, you embody.” Demi and Britney both loved it. Simon isn’t sure it was age appropriate, but he’s positive it will be remembered. Needless to say, Trevor gets four yeses.

Owen Stewart, 16

Oh man, Owen is nauseating. You see, Owen is in love. Sadly, his girlfriend lives north and he lives south, with a few states in the middle. Owen tells us (and anyone who will listen) that the separation causes him physical pain. He needs to win the $5 million, needs to, to bring her to him so they can get married.

Over the sob story, Simon tells Owen to sing. Owen dedicates his performance to Tori, his one and only, and Simon rolls his eyes. Owen raps/sings “Airplanes” by B.O.B. Surprisingly, he’s very good… not $5 million good, I’m afraid, but good.

L.A. gives Trevor props because he sings just as well as he raps. Britney isn’t impressed. Demi thinks Trevor made the romantic lyrics sound cool. Simon likes his passion and focus. L.A., Demi, and Simon say yes. Britney says no.

Freddie Combs, 40

Freddie shares that he almost died in 2009, when his weight peaked at 920 pounds. Now, at 540 pounds, he auditions for The X Factor, hoping to send out a message of hope to anyone who might be struggling. He says, “I hope the judges can look past my appearance and give a fat boy a chance.”

Freddie sings “Wing Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler, which he dedicates to his wife. He sounds great. The high notes are delightful.

L.A. tells Freddie that his voice is heavenly. Britney says, “I find you very shockingly amazing.”  Britney’s odd phrases never get old. Simon challenges Freddie to keep working towards a healthier life. Freddie gets four yeses.

Lauren Jauregui, 16

Not much stands out about Lauren. She has a supportive family and a dream. Much like every other sixteen year old on this show. She sings “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. I wasn’t blown away, but the judges love her.

Simon likes the tone and maturity in her voice, as well as everything else about her. L.A. tells Lauren her audition was perfect. He also notes that The X Factor competition just got a little bit stiffer. Britney and Demi are equally pleased with Lauren. It’s four yeses for Lauren.

Jordyn Foley, 12

Jordan giggles, wears pig tails, and loves pink and sparkles. Jordyn sings “Tomorrow” from Annie. She’s entertaining… and I’ll leave it at that.

Simon tells Jordyn he’s allergic to this song, but she sings it anyway. Simon says to the other judges, “I hate this song. I absolutely hate it.” When Jordyn yells “I’d like to remind you that tomorrow’s always at hand” mid song, Simon’s eyes get real wide. L.A. and Simon laugh so much, they look like they might pee their pants.

Simon is speechless, which doesn’t happen very often. Demi tells Jordyn she’s “too cute.” Britney says Jordyn has an amazing voice. Really, Brit?! L.A. first calls Jordyn a bundle of joy. He then says, “I got thrills out of watching you sing a song that I knew gave him [Simon] excruciating pain.” Simon finds some words, finally, which are, “I do actually like you, but for this show I’m going to have to say no.” Simon.. always the voice of reason. However, Demi, Britney, and L.A. all say yes. Simon says to them, “What have you done?”

Then, Jordyn’s entire entourage, which is no less than 50 people, storms the stage. “Jordyn” posters in hand. It’s crazy. One thanks Simon for saying yes. Dumbfounded, Simon says, “But I didn’t!”

The X Factor boot camp begins next Wednesday. Who are you rooting for?
