America’s Next Top Model Recap: Steampunk Models In A Funk

September 28, 2012 06:42 PM by Stephanie Gustafson

America’s Next Top Model is attempting to move past the stereotypical college girl thing this week and is instead having the models show their quirky side in steampunk photos. Hilarity ensues when two of the models freak out at the sight of a (gasp) owl!

It’s a new week, but Brittany is still in shock over ending up in the bottom two during the last panel. She’s embarrassed that Leila got the higher social media score. To make things worse, Bryanboy shook his head and had a disgusted look on his face when he learned that Brittany was going to stick around for at least another week.

The models head over to the Culver center to watch a virtual version of their “favorite judge” tell them about the upcoming challenge. Turns out, the girls get to go geek, learning the moves necessary to be video game stars! The winner will be featured in Unchartered 3, so this is a big deal. We’re treated to a montage of models running around and vaulting. Some look better than others — Victoria is decidedly awkward. The winner is Laura and she’s super excited about being in a video game, especially as she enjoys playing them with her guy friends.

Time for another plug for the social media aspect of America’s Next Top Model. Anyone else really sick about how social media is soooo important? Yeah, we are too. Challenge scores still play a role though, and Victoria is distraught when she learns that she’s second from last. As usual, she whines about it over the phone to her mom. Come on Victoria, woman up!

The theme for the week is the steam punk, in which the Victorian look is mixed with concepts such as the wild west and science fiction. Oh, and instead of having a sexy male model as photo partner, the contestants get an…owl. The owl is actually pretty darn cute, but Laura is freaked out — she’s terrified of birds. She manages to make it through the shoot though and actually winds up with a few great shots!

Before her shoot, Brittany confronts Bryanboy. He says that he wasn’t shaking his head about Brittany staying — he was just disappointed that Leila’s time on the show was cut short. He gives Brittany a few pointers on appearing confident. She takes the advice to heart and rocks the shoot!

Kristin freaks out even more than Laura over having a bird on her arm. She’s okay whenever the owl sits still, but if it moves, she worries that she’ll be attacked. And unlike Laura, the crippling (and seemingly irrational) fear definitely impacts the photos, which look, well, boring.

Cat fight! Yvonne randomly sticks out her tongue when she learns she’ll have to change her skirt and Bryanboy gets all offended. She talks back with a hefty amount of snark. She goes back later in tears and apologizes and Bryanboy says that she won’t get gigs in the real world if she acts immature.

The models head to panel and get some interesting comments. Kiara’s commentary from judges and social media includes comparisons to a 32-year-old (as opposed to a college student) and a man with makeup on. Bryanboy tells Yvonne and Victoria that their social media scores are dropping fast. Brittany, on the other hand, is moving up the ranks. Tyra loves her and the social media world agrees!

Laura gets top photo and Brittany takes second! Not bad for someone who was almost booted out last week! Victoria and Yvonne are in the bottom two instead. Tyra’s concerned that Victoria is “watering down” her photos to “appeal to the masses.” Yvonne looked angry in her pictures thanks to her spat with Bryanboy. Victoria learns that she’ll be staying and almost has a breakdown. Yvonne, on the other hand, accuses Bryanboy of being rude and leaves in a huff.

Did you think Yvonne deserved to go home? Feel free to share your reaction in the comments section below!
