Amber Portwood has been spending her days in the slammer away from her four-year-old daughter Leah. While the Teen Mom star serves her five year sentence, Leah’s father, Gary Shirley is struggling to tell his daughter exactly where mommy is. What’s a daddy to do?
Four months ago, former Teen Mom star Amber Portwood began serving her five year sentence, which she idiotically chose over rehab. Today, her ex (and Leah’s father) Gary Shirley is still struggling with telling his daughter where her mommy is. “I haven’t been able to say to her, ‘Mommy’s in jail.’ When I tried to tell her Mommy’s in trouble, she got upset, so I’ve said, ‘Mommy’s at work,’ or ‘Mommy’s on vacation,’” an emotional Shirley recently told In Touch Magazine.
But struggling to tell Leah about her mother isn’t his only problem. In fact, Gary also revealed that he is struggling with life as a single parent: “I’m doing the best I can. The last time I cried was two weeks ago. It’s so important to have help with Leah, and people aren’t always there. It’s very frustrating.”
Amber Portwood also reveals on her upcoming MTV special: ” I don’t really think Leah understands at all.” What we can’t understand is why Amber chose jail time over rehab. Something tells us she will never change.
Do you feel sorry for Amber’s situation? How do you think Gary should handle telling Leah the truth? We know you have an opinion, and we want to hear it! Comment below and share your thoughts with us.
