Former X Factor judge and lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger admits to a long-standing battle with bulimia. Scherzinger, 34, joined the Pussycat Dolls in 2003 and hid her battle with bulimia for the entire 7 years she was in the group.
According to US Magazine, Scherzinger finally breaks her silence and for the first time, opens up about her battle with bulimia in a VH1 Behind the Music special, set to air on October 7.
Scherzinger explains, “It’s embarrassing. I never spoke about it. Like I said, I never want to play a victim, and I never wanted my family to hear about things from me because I think it would break their heart, you know… I guess it was like my addiction, right? I never did drugs, but kinda doing things to myself was my addiction. It’s like when I got off stage, I was on this high, and I’d come back to my room and I’d be alone, so I would just do things. My bulimia was my addiction; hurting myself was my addiction.”
But Scherzinger’s confessions didn’t stop there. She went on to reveal a little known truth about the Pussycat Dolls. According to Nicole, she “probably did 95 percent” of the singing on all the studio albums. She says, “I love those girls. They’re like my sisters but people don’t even know the story. They have no idea. I was in the center because I was the one singing.”
To demonstrate her point, Scherzinger went on to say, “I’ll never forget. I finished the album PCD and Ron and I brought the girls into the studio and we played it for them. And it was the first time they had ever heard the music. Do you understand what I’m saying? We played the album for the Pussycat Dolls. It was the first time they had ever heard the songs.”
Executive Producer, Ron Fair confirms Scherzinger’s claims saying, “Melody sang a bit here and there, but the records were Nicole, with the exception of an occasional ad-lib. They were Nicole. It was her.”
