Has The Drama On The Real Housewives Of New Jersey Gone Too Far?

October 11, 2012 08:00 AM by Martha Zaborowski

In the preview of part 3 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, we see Teresa Giudice and her brother Joe Gorga argue about their mother and father. Joe accuses Teresa of “taking his parents away,” and Teresa tells Joe that he’s “breaking mommy and daddy’s heart.” Watch the heart-breaking clip below.

Reality TV sometimes has a reputation of not being nearly “real” enough, but the pain between these two families is real–too real. We are clearly seeing the break-up of a family on national TV. From calling siblings “garbage” to bad-mouthing your in-laws to tabloid magazines, the cast members of The Real Housewives of New Jersey are taking their dirty laundry out for everyone to see. Sure, being “good TV” on a program like the Housewives can land you on a cover of a magazine, get people clicking on your music video, or land you spokesperson business deal, but is that a fair trade-off for the destruction of a family?

If we were to judge whether the exploitation of the Gorgas and the Giudices was worth it simply based on viewership, the answer would be yes. Part 2 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey averaged around 3.5 million viewers, which are huge ratings for Bravo. Because so many people are choosing to tune in, is it then fair game for Bravo to air Teresa and Joe’s brutal fight?

Should Bravo be held responsible for the Gorgas and Giudices’ conflict? It it the families’ fault for allowing their troubles to be filmed? Has the family drama gone too far on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, or will you keep tuning in?

Clearly things have gone way to far. When children and parents are brought into the mix, the line of decency has been crossed. I cringed when Kathy W called Tre’s mother a liar and her father a coward. AT the same time, Tre should not have made mentioned of K’s father, though her comment was far less disparaging than what Kat said. I don’t think I can watch this show for another moment.

IT’s gone way too far. When chidren and parents are brought into the mix, it has clearly crossed the line of basic decency. When Kat screamed that TGuidices mother is a liar and her father a coward, I was brought to tears. The destruction of family ties on national TV is just too much. They are all wrong…all of them.

It’s so sad. I think Bravo has gone to far! When Theresa cracked on the after show “It upset me” because you can see that she has mental health issues that are being exploited. I think if they take her off the show and only allow her to be a guest at times, she will be eager to make amends with everyone else on the show to get a few minutes of camera time. “She would have no choice but to behave.” If Theresa comes back next season as a full time member of the cast? I will not watch it! Its to sad to see a good friend of other cast members become evil and jealous like she has done on the show for 15 minutes of fame.
