Lady Gaga gets her fair share of negative attention, but this time, it’s coming from an unexpected source: fellow musician Ne-Yo. That’s right, Ne-Yo criticized the former So You Think You Can Dance judge for not being enough of an icon. What prompted the all this negativity?
Ne-Yo may be concerned about the current music generation’s lack of an icon, but in the midst of expressing such worries, he inadvertently dissed Lady Gaga. During a chat with The Daily Star, Ne-Yo complained, “Who was the last real icon to come out of the music industry? Everybody thought it was going to be Lady Gaga, but where is she right now, what’s going on with her?”
It’s an odd form of criticism, because if there’s any pop star from the current generation who approaches icon status, it’s Lady Gaga. She certainly is better qualified for the icon label than Ne-Yo!
Of course, in typical celeb fashion, Ne-Yo eventually backpedaled on his anti-Gaga statement. He used Twitter, that popular medium of pseudo-apologies, to clear the air. “I DID NOT DIS LADY GAGA. PERIOD. It’s fabricated. All love. Thanx.” Neyo later added a second tweet on the matter, explaining, “Lady Gaga’s dope I respect her talent and work. That’s it. #done.”
Lady Gaga has yet to comment on Ne-Yo’s criticism. Instead of whining about how none of her cohorts are accomplishing icon status, she’s busy recording music and putting together pain-inducing outfits.
What do you think of Ne-Yo’s critique? Is it justified, or are the angry Lady Gaga fans blowing this all out of proportion? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
