Where Did Honey Boo Boo Get Her Name?

October 21, 2012 03:00 PM by Megan Wilson

Oh, the age old question, debated and discussed throughout time, all in a valiant quest to unearth one mite of information:  Where did Honey Boo Boo get her name from?  Alana Thompson, the Toddlers & Tiaras star has finally spoken out, to none other than Anderson Cooper, about the origin of her name.

Anderson Cooper’s intense, hard-hitting interview went straight for the jugular, asking all the questions that just can’t go a moment longer without answers.  When asked about her name, the “Go Go Juice” queen said, “It just came out of the blue. … Other people call me Honey Boo Boo child, not just me”.

Write that down, historians. Someday in the future, people will wonder.

Honey Boo Boo originally burst onto the scene via an episode of “Toddlers & Tiaras.”  Her jiggling tummy, touting the effects of “go-go juice” obviously struck a cord with people.  She was immediately dubbed “Smoochie” and the “Diva Beauty Queen.” The nickname may have come from when she declared her grandiose plans to be beauty queen: “A dolla makes me holla, honey boo boo!” TLC couldn’t resist taking that phrase; a spokesperson confirmed, “Yes — Alana came up with ‘honey boo boo herself’ in the initial taping of ‘Toddlers & Tiaras.”   Her mom is gaining notoriety as well for her “vajiggle jaggle” and her “Unbeautimous” ways. Their whole crew has nicknames like Sugar Bear, Chickadee, Pumpkin, Uncle Poodle and Chubs-which makes us kinda jealous-who doesn’t want a fun nickname?

And TLC, which stands for “The Learning Channel” takes one more step down the ladder, unless you call eating a spaghetti, ketchup, and butter dish prepped in the microwave learning.

The dirty cheeseball off the floor consuming “Beauty Queen” has knowingly cashed in on the phrase, complete with t-shirts, costumes, and more.  Who could blame her?  We all wonder if she’s trademarked it yet.

What do you think of Honey Boo Boo and her family?  Do you watch the show?

I think this child needs to be taken away from the invironment she is in and placed with parents who have morals…they r pigs and a disgrace to parents everywhere they treat this child like she is a queen and gives her what ever she wants…do the know that they r hurting her health by giving her junk food and so called go go juice…I am completely outraged that television would put these people in thier qwn reality show and don’t get me started on toddlers and tiaras…they need to be cancelled….where is children services when u need them….

I love her confidence. She could go far in whatever she tries if she doesn’t fall into trying to be too much of a redneck.

I recently watched the entire first season and was pretty charmed by them. While some of the bathroom humor I could have done with out, or just not as frequent, it seemed as though Mama June knows time and place, it’s the little one that needs to be taught it. As for the food, yeah, it’s mostly a diet of junk, but not that far off from some rather well-to-do-people I know who don’t have the time to prepare proper meals and pick up fast food every night. They’re just as happy of a family as Honey Boo Boo’s family, too.

I think the whole Honey Boo Boo thing is child exploitation at its best (or should I say, worse). Fortunately (for her and us), she is getting so over-exposed that I think people will be sick of seeing her soon and her 15-minutes of fame will end. Maybe then the exploitation will stop and she can reclaim her childhood.

Dana Reyes, you may want to call child services on yourself if you’re teaching your children your own deplorable version of English.

Yes, this family is deep South and it shows, but the children are happy and well-adjusted, which is more than I can say for the rest of the pageant crowd. I think they’re hilarious and I watch every episode.

This fat little brat is well on her way to graduating into a trashier show like “teen mom”. Her 15 minutes are way past, and NO she is not cute, she is fat and has bad teeth.

I enjoy watching this family interact. After seeing interviews with June I got a new respect for her.Yes she is outspoken but very sensible and educated. She is saving money far her childrens education. and turned down an offer for a new house and said they could decorate or add a room. She also said she realize this is not permanent that anything can happen and it is over. You should hear her speak to an interviewer and you would be impressed.

This family has love for each other and they do the best they can with what they have. They may noy have the best manners but they have fun. Alana seems better in general than that little Eden Wood. I feel sorry for her not for Alana. Alana’s dad is a simple hard working man that has much love for his family.I don’t mind this show at all. I wish all the best for the whole family.

I think the child is as rude and obnoxious as her mother. She has been taught to be rude and crude. Granted the family tries to give back to their community but really. I hate to tell the nation this is not a typical lower class family, this is plain white trash. CPS should step in and remove her from the home she is in an unhealthy environment of course they cant remover her for her parents stupidity

How rude are you people? Everybody wants reality tv nowadays. It doesn’t get any more real than Honey BooBoo and her family. Good for them for being themselves and taking advantage of the opportunities. The show brings REAL comic relief in harsh reality, it’s great!

I too watch the show once in a while and it upsets me to see the mothers pushing their little girls into a world that is far too advanced for their years. Let them be little girls and enjoy their childhood. Childhood is so very short. It is upsetting to see girls cry when they are being prepped and to see the anxiety on their faces when they are being judged. Wish I had a daughter.

I’d rather mash my toes one by one with a sledge hammer. Between this barbaric little BRAT and her band of Appalachian inbred family members, the Kardashians and that Mormon cultist freak with his half dozen wives I’m glad my television broke.

And we wonder why Americans are not competitive on the global market. Glorifying such stupidity and lack of class is simply a waste. I believe I am neurons dumber for ever wasting my time to “give it the benefit of the doubt”. There’s nothing real about reality television. Child pagents are exploitive and creative sexual objects out of young children. TLC should be ashamed, and change their title. It’s sad that in an economy where deserving, needed individuals – like teachers, police men to list a few – are losing their jobs, half wits like Honey Boo Boo get paid thousand per episode to do what? Eat processed cheese product off the floor!

I didn’t support the way her family acted at first, until recently when I saw their christmas special. That family was down and out one year at christmas, and because of the help of the community that year, It taught them to give back. They set up a Christmas Display every year, and take donations of food and toys for the needy families in the community. Even if you dont support them, They aren’t all that bad. That little girl is happy with her “dysfunctional” family.

    This show is disgusting!

You know, I first saw this little girl on Toddlers and Tiaras. TBH I disliked the way the parents encouraged her to behave. I tried to watch the Honey Boo Boo show, but could not stomach the vulgarity. Problem solved, I do not watch! However, I must please ask that people on this forum refrain from saying needless, nasty comments about Alana. She is just a little girl and some of these comments are very hurtful to her.

I think the show is disgusting! None of the family members have manners. I saw that brat Honey Boo Boo on a talk show, and her behavior was rude. Her mother just laughed at her terrible manners, and didn’t make any effort to correct her. I would have excused myself, and had the kid apologize, but sadly, I don’ think this family understands etiquette. Watching once was more than enough!!

  37. Jennifer Says:
    April 18th, 2013 at 6:45 pm

I think this show is awesome! Sometimes, I think Alana needs a butt-whooping every now and then but I can tell this is a very loving family. I don’t know why people think they are disgusting. Sure, they fart and use the bathroom a lot but they are human and that is what humans do. As far as the exploitation of the child, June does not make that girl do what she doesn’t want to. Alana loves the pageants and that is why June lets her do it. Sugar Bear is a wonderful dad. Always working to support his family which is more than I can say for others. At least he is not a deadbeat.

As far as some of the interviews that Alana and her mother had on talk shows, I agree that Alana’s behavior was not appropriate. June did tell her several times to stop but if I was just I would have done what my mama used to do if we were acting up in church. I would have told the producers that I would be right back, took Alana to the bathroom, and gave her a bare-assed whipping for being disrespectful. Then again, as liberal as Hollywood is, they would have called DFCS on her right then so I guess you can’t win for losing.

Anyways, I hope that they make another season of this show because I am missing it. Love it and still love this family. God Bless.

I am sure that reading ANYTHING is not a very high priority for that family, or for white trash in general. So i don’t think they are going to be upset by negative, though dead accurate, descriptions of themselves. And if you are offended, just eat another bag of pork rinds in front of your tv until you feel better.

  48. Brian Davidson Says:

The makeup and plaster that you typically see on her makes the poor child look like a hideous buxom doll. Why can’t those around her see the damage? Or do they, and don’t care?

@toks: Are you for real? Don’t you see the difference between adults freely choosing such ‘dysfunctional’ lifestyles, and forcing it on a poor child? No child should suffer abuse, period, and supporting child abuse for ‘entertainment’ purposes is just plain sick & wrong. It’s even worse than those doing the abuse.
