Dancing With The Stars Recap: Guilty Pleasures & Team Freestyle Part I

October 22, 2012 06:07 PM by Candace Young

Last week on Dancing With The Stars, all-star Bristol Palin hit the end of the road with partner Mark Ballas, and teams were established. Tonight’s episode will feature ‘guilty pleasure’ songs and the team freestyle dances, which will be split into two nights of performances due to the Presidential debate.  Valentin Chmerkovskiy and Kelly Monaco are up first…

Dancing With The Stars’ Val and Kelly kick off the show with a fun and sexy samba danced to Cher Lloyd’s Want U Back. There’s a lot of grinding and hip action -  not complaining – but Kelly seems slightly tired or just not herself. Len found it slow to start and too raunchy! Bruno calls Kelly a titillating tasty tease, and Carrie Ann notes that Kelly seemed tense. Kelly talks about her hectic schedule with Brooke before scores come in. They net 8s from Len and Carrie Ann and an 8.5 from Bruno for 24.5.

Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd are dancing to Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You tonight. It’s rumored Gilles will strip down in his team routine later – gah! Tonight, Gilles is hoping their routine will be so scintillating that babies will be made. Gilles and Peta’s rumba is riveting – sweeping moments, high kicks, sensuality, and a old-time movie glamor vibe – wow! Bruno calls it master-class theater – one of the best performances he’s seen. Carrie Ann enthuses, “Let the baby-making begin,” and falls right off her chair onto the floor! Bergeron jokes that he didn’t expect her to get into position. Way too funny! Len says they turned October into Hotober! They get 10s from Bruno and Carrie Ann and 9.5 from Len – 29.5 total.

Kirstie Alley and Maks Chmerkovskiy are doing a quickstep to Mrs. Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel tonight. It looks good! They are in sync and Kirstie continues to live out many women’s Chmerkovskiy fantasies with a shadowy clinch at the end – hot! All three judges think it was their best dance and compliment Kirstie on her technique. They score 8.5s from all three judges for 25.5 total.

The final individual routine tonight on Dancing With The Stars is Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke performing a samba to Barry Manilow’s Copacabana – one of my own guilty pleasures! They dance their faces off in their red and orange costumes before a set of palm trees! The judges are definitely fans. Carrie Ann compliments Emmitt’s swagger! Brooke teases Emmitt about being a ‘fanilow’. They pull 9.5s from Carrie Ann and Len, and a 10 from Bruno for a total of 29.

Team Freestyle

Derek Hough and Shawn Johnson’s team freestyle performance is up next. It was in practice for this routine that Melissa Rycroft was rushed to the hospital with a head and neck injury. She tells Tom she was diagnosed with a herniated disc, but was cleared to dance. The team performs as cheerleaders and football players to Call My Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson.

Sabrina brings the sexy, Shawn the high-flying moves, Derek the abs, and Melissa performs admirably – even allowing herself to be used as a human skipping rope! Len tells them it was fantastic – especially to have learned a routine to this standard while learning their individuals! Bruno enthuses that it seemed professional and Carrie Ann adds her accolades. They get the 10 from Len! Also a 10 from Bruno and a 9.5 from Carrie Ann – 29.5 total.

Remember, the remaining individual routines and Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd’s team freestyle, complete with Gilles possibly stripping down, will happen tomorrow night!

What irritates me the most in the American version of Dwts are the commercials. Grrrrrrrr…. there are just too many of them. And way much too often. They make this show impossible to watch.
