Past skeletons are coming out of the closet for X Factor judge, Britney Spears as a nasty court battle between Sam Lufti and Britney and her parents, Lynne and Jaime Spears heats up. With emotions running high, it was just a matter of time before someone broke down on the stand.
Britney’s former manager, Sam Lufti is suing Britney for 15 percent of the income she earned during the eight months he was her manager, which totals in the hundreds of thousands. And her mother, Lynne Spears for defamation and father, Jaime Spears for assault.
According to People, the incident in question happened on the night of January 28, 2008 while Britney was having a mental breakdown. In the midst of the chaos, Britney’s then manager, Lufti and her father, Jaime squabbled over which one of them had Britney’s best interests in mind, and who was actually trying to protect her. Lufti testified about Jaime saying, “He was spitting, shouting and angry, saying I’d better leave Britney alone or he’d beat the h*ll out of me.”
Britney’s security guards then removed Jaime from the house but he supposedly returned the next morning. Lufti said, “He came in, started yelling at me, accusing me that I was abusing his wife [Lynne], cornered me in the kitchen, punched me in the [chest], and threatened to kill me.”
Lufti took the stand on Wednesday and broke down several times while testifying about Lynne Spears’ book. In the book, Lynne refers to Lufti as being a ‘Svengali’ and accuses him of drugging Britney, which resulted in a “huge spike in death threats, mainly from Britney’s fans.” Lufti said the threats caused him to feel “depressed, anxious, and suicidal.”
What do you think of the Britney Spears trial so far? Do you think Lufti was a caring manager who was trying to help Britney? Or do you think he was part of the problem and helped contribute to her negative mental state? Do you think Lufti should be awarded any money? Post a comment and let us know how you feel.
