Honey Boo Boo Doesn’t Like Fame

October 25, 2012 03:00 PM by Megan Wilson

The media blast that has followed Honey Boo Boo is creating ramifications in the 7 year old Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star’s life.  Her recent appearance on Dr. Drew brought criticism as she faked being asleep on TV, refused to answer questions, and said she hated it when fans came up to her.  Could this be the beginning of the end for Honey Boo Boo?

There is no denying the fact that being shoved into the spotlight is going to have deep ramifications on a seven year old.  She’s endured a harrowing schedule of media appearances, filming deadlines, and internet fame.  What do we really expect?  She went from a playful, normal girl in rural Georgia to a household name known for one liners and drinking go-go juice almost overnight.  Many people are asking if the girl is being used like a “Puppet” by her family for the financial gain.

During the famous spot on the Dr. Drew show, Honey Boo Boo is faking sleep while her “Coupon Queen” mom is seen in the background, saying “Come on, Alana, let’s get this done so we can go.”  It’s heartbreaking, really.  Alana goes on to say that she hates it when fans come up to her, and admits that she’s called Honey Boo Boo at her elementary school.  It’s obvious that the reality TV persona that is Honey Boo Boo has invaded Alana’s private life.  It’s not clear what the future holds for her, but hopefully her family can either create boundaries, or step out of the spotlight all together so Alana can have a chance at a somewhat normal upbringing.

Her mom seems to relish the fame that the show has brought, but hopefully she realizes that there is a point where it has gone too far.  Alana obviously is crying out for some normalcy; the chance to be a normal 7 year old girl.  Many people fear that she will go the way of other child stars.  We hope for her sake that this doesn’t happen.

Oh dear god, Megan Wilson, can you not see the irony in writing an entire article about a seven year old child—then criticizing her mother for the fame brought down upon the girl (Also: the child DOES have a father. Is he culpable here? Or is it the mother solely? As usual?)

The worst part of this “article” is that its snarkiness is cozily couched in faux concern for the child. Stop writing about her. Let’s see what happens.

Well, we dont like seeing you on TV anymore than you dont like being famous for it. So there you go. Maybe the family should quit it already.

I feel bad for Alana, but then, I have to consider the IQ level of her gene pool and there was no way that they (her parents) could have predicted the popularity that several redneck-oriented television shows have currently. It’s a shame, really. And, the money they’re getting isn’t that much in the grand scheme of things, but probably more than her father makes in two years for one 10-12 week stint of shows. Maybe it’s time for Hollywood writers to start writing again and let’s get rid of the so-called celebrities and so-called television royalty. The words celebrity and royalty get bandied about in the media, when the real royalty are the Royals of England, Sweden, Greece, etc. There is nothing Royal about being an actor. Just overpriced people doing what they want for a job while the rest of us stupidly pay the price to see them in a movie, and put them on a phony pedestal. Why? We’re a dumb nation eager to jump at the smallest thing.

In order for her to ‘go the way of other child stars’ she actually has to be a star. My heart goes out to this girl…

And people think this little girl is ignorant?? At least she has the sense to realize this is not the life she wants. Too bad the adults in her life are not as smart. Mom and TLC should stop it before it gets worse for Alana

Should be illegal for a hick family to make money off her kid who has no choice but to be subdued to this punishment.. No kid should be filmed under 18 without proper screening and the ability to say no… Bullshit Merica feeding on bullshit and paying a family that should be working for a living.

It’s high time for TLC’s “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” to suffer the same fate as the Dinosaurs. Extinction! I pity this poor little girl, and hold her ‘do anything for fame’ mother in contempt! Shame on this mother for using her child in this manner! What she’s doing is child abuse!

I watched one episode and have not watched another. The family is nothing but white trash. The mother has been on welfare her entire life and I wonder if the good people of GA are still paying for Peach Care for this crew? I’m sure fat old mama will get her own show with her troupe of illegitimate children and grandchildren.
