After Republican Senate candidate, Richard Mourdock made controversial rape comments and the much-anticipated release of Trump’s Obama announcement yesterday by Celebrity Apprentice host, Donald Trump, President Obama made an appearance on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show to address the issues in question. Read what the president had to say after the jump.
When it came to Donald Trump and his ridiculous demands Obama didn’t have much to say according to E! News, other than, “This all dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya,” Obama joked with Jay Leno on Wednesday night. “We had constant run-ins on the soccer field.” As the audience laughed and enjoyed the President’s humor, he added, “He wasn’t very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America, I thought it would be over.”
But when the subject changed to Mourdock’s comments, the president went from humorous to serious. According to ABC News, President Obama said, “Let me make a very simple proposition, rape is rape. It is a crime. And so these various distinctions about rape don’t make too much sense to me, don’t make any sense to me.”
In opposition to Mourdock and Romney, Obama believes women should have a choice so he supports abortion rights. Whereas, some Republicans would like to see abortion outlawed all together, which prompted the President to say, “This is exactly why you don’t want a bunch of politicians, mostly male, making decisions about women’s health care decisions,” he told Leno, as the audience cheered. “Women are capable of making these decisions in consultation with their partners, with their doctors, and for politicians to want to intrude in this stuff often times without any information is a huge problem. And this is obviously a part of what’s at stake in this election.”
How do you feel about Trump’s demands on the president? And what about Mourdock’s comments on rape? Do you think Obama handled the situation well? And what do you think of the comments he made on the tonight show? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it, so please post a comment below.
