If you’re Donald Trump and a media debacle (or should we say flop?) doesn’t go as planned, what do you do? Throw more money at it, of course! During a recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, Trump revealed the reasoning behind the latest Obama
scheme offer and hinted at the possibility of an increased contribution to charity.
Donald Trump was hoping that his “big announcement” would be a game-changer for the 2012 election. So far, it looks like his plans have failed to come to fruition. While attracting plenty of media attention, the college record campaign has largely been dismissed as a gimmick.
In attempt to inject a little life into what is clearly a dying effort, Trump defended his charity offer during an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. The discussion began when Letterman asked the question that has been on all our minds: “What did I miss in this? Why do we want to see President Obama’s college records?”
Trump’s response? “Transparency. Does that make sense to anybody? Seriously, transparency.” He added, “I assume and I hope that his records are perfect.”
Yeah right. We suspect that Donald Trump’s assumptions are exactly the opposite of what he told David Letterman. If Trump assumed that Obama’s records were perfect, he’d have no reason to start up this witch hunt in the first place.
Assuming that the audience was too feeble-minded to get the gist of his initial announcement, Trump explained, “He picks up $5 million for charity. Five million. From me. Immediate. Check written.”
$5 million is a lot of money, but Trump’s willing to up the ante if necessary. “I’d even go more to be honest; there, you have a scoop.”
We suspect that Donald Trump will not have to worry about parting ways with over $5 million. And we also suspect that he knows this and is hoping that Obama’s refusal to play ball will end up hurting his reelection effort. Do you think Trump’s scheme will work? Leave a comment and let us know!
