Last week on Dancing With The Stars the all-star season brought a repeat of the shocking too-soon elimination of Sabrina Bryan as she and partner Louis Van Amstel were forced out of the competition despite topping the leaderboard consistently. This week there will be no elimination due to the Presidential Election. Tonight, it’s time for the latest all-star challenge – the fusion dances! Also tonight, Mark Ballas fills in for injured Derek Hough, partnering with Shawn Johnson. Read on!
Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina Smirnoff approach their fusion of Cha Cha/Pasa Doble with Apolo giving a skating analogy of some kind. It’s a very powerfully sexy performance that is quite impressive, but verges on overly-dramatic at moments. It has Len calling him Apolo ‘OhYes!” Bruno calls the routine triumphant and wonderful, and Carrie Ann zeroes in on Apolo having ripped his shirt off – strong and stronger! It’s three 9s for 27 total.
Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke are doing Samba/Rumba for their fusion dance tonight. Emmitt has burst out of his typical brown attire shell to take the floor wearing bright fuschia! Their dance is entertaining, but the whole thing reminds me of an old Donny and Marie special. Bruno gives it a huge thumbs up, Carrie Ann felt the upper body was lacking and comments that she could see Emmitt thinking about the next move. Len compliments the performance. They net an 8.4 from Carrie Ann, and 9.5s from the male judges for 27.5 total.
Kirstie Alley and Maks Chmerkovskiy are doing the Quickstep fused with a Samba tonight. The duo are very costumey-looking and the routine is fun. Carrie Ann notes they fell out of sync toward the end, Len thought it was a nice mix and an admirable effort despite a few ‘incidents’ going on (this remark causes Kirstie to snort with laughter!), and Bruno raves that only Kirstie could turn Cinderella into a stripper! All three judges give 8s for a total of 24.
It’s a Foxtrot/Cha Cha fusion dance for Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy this evening on Dancing With The Stars. Their routine is mesmerizing and cheeky, and ends with Val on bended knee proposing! No, not for real. Len is happy about the smoothness of the fusion. Bruno enthuses about Kelly’s booty working overtime, and Carrie Ann is also a fan. All three judges award 9s for a score of 27.
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani are doing a Tango/Cha Cha fusion, which are very different dances so it’s expected to be quite a challenge. Melissa is hot in black…and then slinky, skimpy white, and the routine is flawless! Bruno growls over the sexiness and how turned on he is, Carrie Ann says Melissa’s a star, and Len says the two dances were beautifully defined – well done! They get a 10 from Carrie Ann and 9.5s from the men – 28.5 total.
Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas are performing together due to Derek Hough‘s neck injury. Their routine is a Tango/Pasa Doble fusion – set to a Bon Jovi tune! Love it. Shawn’s sporting a vampirella dress and Mark is fine in black and red. The performance is fantastic! Carrie Ann enthuses, “That was a fusion!” Len calls it a firecracker! Bruno calls it flawless. It’s three 10s – first perfect score!
Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd will be fusing an Argentine Tango with a Samba this week. Gilles is keen for the judges to, er, smell their sexuality during this performance. I don’t know how it smelled, but it looked intense and pretty stellar and sexy! Bruno and Len both rave about it, but Carrie Ann draws boos from the crowd for mentioning Gilles’ ‘arm thingies’. They net three 9.5s for a score of 28.5.
Last up it’s the Swing Dance Marathon. One couple will get an extra 10 points out of it. They take the floor in a burst of flouncy skirts and suspenders to begin. Kirstie and Maks are the first tapped out – they get 4 points for their trouble. Gilles and Peta are second to leave and net 5 additional points. Apolo and Karina are out with 6 points tacked on. Emmitt and Cheryl get the nod and take 7 more points. Shawn and Mark are asked to leave the floor and get 8 extra points. Kelly and Val take the 9 point runner-up position, which means Melissa and Tony are the winners and get 10 more points added to their score going into next week!
