Former American Idol judge, Steven Tyler and fellow Aerosmith band members, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton, and Brad Whitford went back to where they first started and rocked out a free concert on Monday. Where did it all go down? Take the jump to get all the details.
According to the Denver Post, Aerosmith turned out in Boston on Monday and rocked a crowd of thousands in front of a building where they had once lived. Mayor Thomas Menino’s wife, Angela presented the band members with street signs boasting the address, 1325 Commonwealth Avenue and a city plaque that will be hung in front of the famous address. Aerosmith band members held the signs high and Steven Tyler said, “This is where it started and this is where it will never end!”
The band broke into concert playing both old and new music while droves of fans lined the streets, hung from windows and stood on crowed fire escapes and rooftops. Some of the songs included classics like “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk this Way” plus new tunes from their new album, “Music From Another Dimension,” which releases today, Nov 6.
The song “Movin’ Out” from the band’s self-titled album was written about moving out of this very apartment in Boston. It was both commemorative and special to the band to make a return appearance to their old stomping grounds on Monday and show much love and appreciation to their fans there. One fan commented, “It’s just really, really cool that they came back to where they started to show their appreciation.”
Although the concert caused disruptions in traffic as well as work schedules, Dan Linskey, Boston Police Superintendent-in-Chief said it was fantastic to have the band in town and watch people both young and old rock out to their music. “It was great,” he said. “Who doesn’t love Aerosmith?” Linskey asked. “I think we’ve all been on a treadmill with Aerosmith getting us through the final minutes.”
The show wrapped up on the eve of Election Day by blasting the crowd with red, white, and blue confetti. And band members made hand impressions in wet cement that later will be placed in front of their old Boston home.
