It’s official! Shakira and Usher will be joining the reality TV ranks by becoming judges on the next season of The Voice. The NBC hit pits judge against judge, by allowing each judge to pick teams of vocal standouts and eliminating them one by one until one judge is left with one winner. Blake Shelton has already emerged triumphant with is team in season 2, showing up Adam Lavigne’s win in season 1. Blake discussed the addition of Shakira and Usher this week, leaving us all dissapointed to say goodbye to Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green.
When asked about the new judges to grace the stage, Blake admitted that things definitely felt foreign. “The chemistry is definitely different with Shakira and Usher replacing Christina and Cee Lo. But the show is still really good. It’s still entertaining – it’s just different personalities.” Hey, as long as Blake is still in the mix, we’re happy. Right?
When asked about sizing up his new competitors, Blake added, “I tell ya, Shakira is not joking around about this. She is serious and she wants to win this thing. I don’t know if I’ve seen anybody as committed – out of the six of us that have done this now – as she is to winning this thing.” We readily admit that Shakira does possess a fierceness not many other stars have accomplished. But can she stand the constant competition that The Voice requires? Blake goes on to joke, “And that makes me laugh because I know I’m gonna beat her.”
“And Usher, he just kind of plays the cool card and he’s real laid back. He doesn’t have to sell himself too much – I mean, the guy found Justin Bieber. That’s kind of the coaching/mentor role, right there.”
We’re all very excited to see the debut of the two new judges, and to see how they all stack up against each other, although we’ll definitely miss Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green.
Do you think Shakira and Usher will fit in during the upcoming season? Will they incite drama like Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj did on American Idol? Let us know in the comments!
