Just when you think the reality world has covered it all, a new show comes out and completely destroys your expectations. Such was the case with Breaking Amish, the hit show about a group of five young Amish men and women setting out to explore the world. Following the huge success of Breaking Amish, the Discovery Channel is now releasing its own show about the Amish world.
Fans just can’t get enough of Breaking Amish, which is why they’ll be glad to learn that Discovery Channel is about to debut Amish Mafia this December. The two reality shows are similar in their exploration of the Amish community, but Amish Mafia differs in that it follows a group of very dedicated Amish men as opposed to the slightly uncertain group portrayed in Breaking Amish. These men have decided to label themselves the new vigilantes of Lancaster County, bringing a stop to the crime and debauchery they see as threatening their way of life.
While the basic plot setup is interesting in and of itself, what really could make the show intriguing (and potentially disturbing) are the methods by which these men decide to mete out justice. Although the Discover Channel has not yet provided too many specifics, it is clear that the men will be using methods that don’t exactly follow tradition in the Amish community.
Sounds interesting, if not a bit…sketchy…to protect the identities of some of several members of the Lancaster community, many of the scenes will be re-enacted. So your guess is as good as ours as to how much of the show is accurate.
Will you be watching Amish Mafia? Or are you waiting for the “Amish craze” to die out so that you can get back to your regularly scheduled Kardashian gossip? Leave a comment and let us know!
