Donald Trump Dismisses “Dump Trump” With “Success”

November 14, 2012 07:00 AM by Megan Wilson

If you haven’t heard already, an online petition has been created calling for Donald Trump to be fired from Macy’s.  Macy’s has worked with The Apprentice for years, and just released some new ads featuring Donald.  As the signature tally skyrockets, Donald Trump dismissed the petition by citing the sales numbers of his cologne, “Success”.

The online petition accuses Donald Trump of engaging in “especially unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior.” These charges include making sexist comments, being a hypocrite concerning off-shore production, using his influence to discuss global warming, and my personal favorite, starting the birthing conspiracy.  Donald Trump was asked about the petition, and in typical Trump style, tried to spin the bad publicity into free advertising!

Taking to his favorite social platform, Twitter, Donald Trump covertly addressed his relationship with Macys AND the hype by tweeting “My fragrance—”Success”—is flying off the shelves @Macys.  The perfect Christmas gift!”

The description for the fragrance is hard to read while attempting to keep a straight face: “An inspiration and draw to those around him. His unbridled passion and determination defines who he is and ultimately where he will go. Success by Trump captures the spirit of the driven man. The scent is an inspiring blend of fresh juniper and ices red currant, brushed with hints of coriander. As it evolves, the mix of frozen ginger, fresh bamboo leaves and geranium emerge taking center stage, while a masculine combination of rich vetiver, tonka bean, birchwood and musk create a powerful presence throughout wear.

I know you didn’t read that whole thing.  Admit it.  But really, I’m surprised.  That isn’t really what I thought Trump would smell like.  I imagined mouthwash, Aqua Net, self-tanner, and wore-out socks.  Does Trump even know what vetiver is?

I called our local Macys, and they said they had “plenty” of the fragrance in stock, which tells me it isn’t exactly flying off of the shelf.  I noticed many people, including Cher, are now boycotting Macy’s-I wonder if Macy’s will “Dump Trump” this holiday season?

I urge Macy’s not to cave in to the petition to remove Donald Trump from Macy’s advertising campaign. I am a life-long Democrat. I am deeply troubled by the increasing intolerance of my fellow Democrats for those who disagree with the “Party line”. Free speech is a cornerstone of our democracy.

Don’t cave in to political bullying. Let’s keep Donald in the ads. A little controversy is always a good thing, and no one is going to stop shopping at Macy’s because of Donald Trump. In fact, I’m going to go to Macy’s online and make a purchase right now to support free speech.

‘Dump Trump’ is not really about free speech and even if it were and Macy’s were to dump Trump, Trump’s right to free speech would not be violated in any way, shape or form. That’s not what freedom of speech means. Trump is ridiculous, his products are crap, his casinos are shabby and his desperation for relevance is almost adorably pathetic but there is a more pressing reasons for the ‘Dump Trump’ campaign.

Trump’s clothing line is made using sweatshop labor in China and Bangladesh. Laborers in these sweatshops are usually underage and work 16 hour days at $.10 per hour. Some people believe the (false) rhetoric that claims these penny jobs are enough to sustain life in Southeast Asia. This is not the truth at all. Most of these workers are starving but are held against their will so it is enforced, slave labor that makes the products that make others wealthy.

Trump is just one of many, many brands that need to be boycotted and dumped from store shelves.
