Lisa Whelchel Diagnosed With West Nile Virus

November 15, 2012 07:22 AM by Lisa Princ

Lisa Whelchel has been competing in reality television’s battle of survival this season on Survivor: Philippines, and she also battled a secret divorce earlier this year, but now, she has yet another real life battle to face. The Facts Of Life star just revealed that she was recently diagnosed with West Nile Virus!

On Tuesday, 49-year-old Lisa Whelchel, who is currently competing on Survivor this season, revealed some bad news from her doctor. Posting on Twitter, she told her fans: “Dr. just called with blood test results…I have West Nile. Ugh. I’m fine, just tired. Takes a year to recover.” No need to worry about Lisa though, she went on to add that she is expecting to recover fully from the disease, which appears to have given her some fatigue lately.

Whether or not she got the disease while competing on Survivor or while at home in the United States, is unknown. According to the CDC, the disease which comes from mosquitoes, has affected nearly 4,000 people in The United States this year. As for her stint on the show, Lisa would not change a thing. She recently told People Magazine: “I didn’t have one moment where I regretted being out there. In fact, the contrary. I was having an adventure; I was doing something that was a challenge, that was very hard.”

We wish Lisa Whelchel well in her recovery! What do you think of Lisa’s diagnosis? Are you shocked? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it! Or maybe you’d like to leave her some well wishes? Comment below to share your thoughts!

Lisa – I love watching you on Survivor – I’ve been a fan since I was a little girl and I don’t normally watch Survivor but am so glad I am this time!

Get well soon, and I’m hoping to see you in the final three! : )
